If you are traveling solo, I would recommend avoiding walking around the city center during the night. My suggestion is to uber places if you feel unsafe, as it is not on the expensive side! I would not recommend public transportation.

Belo Horizonte is a very beautiful city. The people are extremely friendly and will help you if you need it. The transportation is average; you usually spend some time waiting. The food is truly fantastic.
