What a great trip to Brazil last year at carnival time. We visited Rio, Paraty and Ilha Grande. :) This year planned a trip to Salvador and other places in August 🫶😊 I am looking forward to a great time with amazing food, great views and a great culture to enjoy.

I loved the people and rio has a lot of nice places to go. It's the perfect combination between nature and city life. Take samba lessons if possible, it's totally worth the experience! Motorcycle rides sometimes could be cheaper than you may think

Spent a week in rio with my best friend (two solo females) and we felt very safe around Leblon and ipanema - however, copacabana was a completely different story, a lot of very crazy people walking around trying to snatch us - if you walk around daytime and choose to uber instead of walking many blocks, you will be fine. food, coffee, clothing, shopping in general and beach drinks were super cheap and good quality - highly recommend praia vermelha and pao de açucar, jardim botânico as well was...

Stay in south zone with attention. The other areas from the north like Jacarezinho, Complexo do Alemão, Complexo da Maré and other areas far from the south zone are more risky. Stay away from there if you came to Rio.
Posted: June 15, 2026The south part of the Rio city is a safe place, you just need to pay a little attention with your belongings. By night it's better go home by 10p.m and not after that if your alone, if you're with some men friend, by 23p.m it's ok.

In Brazil, we have an expression called "dar mole" (to be soft), and that's what you can't do. So, don't leave your cell phone exposed on places full of people or empty streets, where it can be snatched away. Always keep your purse and backpack in front of your field of vision. Don't make foolish savings. If it's night, call a car or an Uber to get to your destination. Your life, integrity, and even your material stuff are much more expensive than an Uber or taxi ride. Avoid being too friendly...

Rio is not the most safe, bug also not as dangerous as some make it seem. There are certain areas that are worse than others and you must be street smart to get by. Don't leave your stuff unattended, keep your bag on your sight, don't walk in dark empty places, attention around you, research places, if possible get company or even better a local to show you around. I was born and raised in rio and it's a beautiful city, and I only got robbed once in new year (which is a dangerous day to go by...
