Rio de Janeiro is safe if you go to tourist places, Dont go to favelas just because it's famous, focus going to beaches, museums, shopping mall, and nature places. That way you wont get annoyed by bad intention ppl

Every place is dangerous, especially for us women. In Rio it is not AS DANGEROUS as people say. Of course you are not going to go out at 4 in the morning alone expecting safety. There are places that are really more dangerous than others, but just stay informed and everything will be fine.

Rio isn’t as unsafe as people think. Tourist spots are safe, but watch out for pickpockets, like in any big city. At night, avoid waiting on the street with your phone. Order an Uber from indoors or a venue.
Posted: January 9, 2025Rio has lots of touristic areas, but it also has some very dangerous ones. Usually, locals know the difference and treat outsiders with the utmost respect and are really welcoming, but there are some areas I, as a local, would never enter.
Posted: January 3, 2025Rio is a beautiful city, not better stay where all the tourists are. If you go to a local place it's not safe. So, better listen what they say at the hotel. Stay safe! Don't go to favela safaris. Instead go to see the touristic attractions.
Posted: September 4, 2024Rio is a somewhat dangerous city, but with some care, everyone can have an excellent experience in the Marvelous City. In tourist spots, there may be people watching tourists (especially foreigners) to gain some advantage. I suggest using either Uber, public transportation, and/or a trusted driver.
Posted: August 15, 2024Not safe specially at night, but you can walk during the day as long as you don’t show off or wear expensive stuff. You just have to be careful and pay attention. It’s a very beautiful city after all.

Rio is very known for its high criminality and also for being a very unsafe city. I’m not going to say it’s not dangerous to be here but it’s also not as bad as the media shows. Rio is an experience. Of course you need to be careful, to be aware of your surroundings but also you can enjoy the city
Posted: June 23, 2024Very dangerous!!! People can rob you any time. In the night it’s very scareful to walk alone. I don’t recommend. Don’t go to communities too. A lot of assaults happening every day. You have to always take Uber to go to places.

I loved Rio! I also managed to see some carnival celebrations as they started in January already! I felt very safe although I was also cautious because I know that it can be very unsafe there. Prices were very affordable but, as usually, in more touristic areas they were higher than they should be. I can definitely reccomend! And the weather was awesome.
Posted: February 3, 2025Experienced: December, 2024Rio de Janeiro is a really vibrant and wild city. And also really dangerous at the same time. But when you aware of that and not showing your phone that much in public you will be safe. I really loved the sunsets at ipanema beach that’s totally the best beach in Rio and also the Streetparty on Monday’s at Pedro do Sal.

I'm a girl from Rio who has visited and lived in many Brazilian cities. So i have been a guide for several times, in different cities (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Aracaju and Porto Alegre). The best part is the opportunity to change experiences and make new friends! I really love it! Easy-going person, who loves to introduce my country and our culture to people.
