Every place is dangerous, especially for us women. In Rio it is not AS DANGEROUS as people say. Of course you are not going to go out at 4 in the morning alone expecting safety. There are places that are really more dangerous than others, but just stay informed and everything will be fine.

Rio isn’t as unsafe as people think. Tourist spots are safe, but watch out for pickpockets, like in any big city. At night, avoid waiting on the street with your phone. Order an Uber from indoors or a venue.
Posted: January 9, 2025Rio has lots of touristic areas, but it also has some very dangerous ones. Usually, locals know the difference and treat outsiders with the utmost respect and are really welcoming, but there are some areas I, as a local, would never enter.
Posted: January 3, 2025Rio is a beautiful city, not better stay where all the tourists are. If you go to a local place it's not safe. So, better listen what they say at the hotel. Stay safe! Don't go to favela safaris. Instead go to see the touristic attractions.
Posted: September 4, 2024Rio is a somewhat dangerous city, but with some care, everyone can have an excellent experience in the Marvelous City. In tourist spots, there may be people watching tourists (especially foreigners) to gain some advantage. I suggest using either Uber, public transportation, and/or a trusted driver.
Posted: August 15, 2024Not safe specially at night, but you can walk during the day as long as you don’t show off or wear expensive stuff. You just have to be careful and pay attention. It’s a very beautiful city after all.

Rio is very known for its high criminality and also for being a very unsafe city. I’m not going to say it’s not dangerous to be here but it’s also not as bad as the media shows. Rio is an experience. Of course you need to be careful, to be aware of your surroundings but also you can enjoy the city
Posted: June 23, 2024Very dangerous!!! People can rob you any time. In the night it’s very scareful to walk alone. I don’t recommend. Don’t go to communities too. A lot of assaults happening every day. You have to always take Uber to go to places.
Posted: June 6, 2024The touristic areas are not that bad. But u should not have your mobille in your hands while walking on the streets. The normal pickpocket is everywhere. Schemes are also common on taxis, some bars / restaurants bills. We should always be alert walking on the streets

Rio de Janeiro is a really vibrant and wild city. And also really dangerous at the same time. But when you aware of that and not showing your phone that much in public you will be safe. I really loved the sunsets at ipanema beach that’s totally the best beach in Rio and also the Streetparty on Monday’s at Pedro do Sal.

El Salvador
I loved Rio The culture is really friendly, the food is good and not to expensive and the beaches are just perfect. You can go on hikes or if you like to party you can always go to Lapa. Most people don’t speak english so I would recomendar to learn solo basic words. I would not recommed going to the Chist the Redeemer because it is way too crowded so you don’t get to enjoy the amazing view and you have to do a two hour line (or more). The place is amazing but the amount of people is a little overwhelming.
