Salzburg is a super safe city. Of course, you should be aware while walking at night but I’ve never had a bad experience. I would say be careful if you walk near City beats on Friday night, because people are a bit drunk. They don’t approach you physically but might catcall.

Salzburg is very safe, probably one of the safest cities in the world. There are just a few spots I would not go to in the dark, for example the Lehner park. Whenever you don't feel safe you can always rely on the police to help

It's a small city, which is in my opinion very safe. I spend most of my freetime in the city and never before did any of my things get stolen :) Public transport is also safe, as you arrive the only place that might scare you is the train station - but it's not as bad as it seems ;)
Posted: August 7, 2024You are pretty safe in Salzburg, even when it is dark, the only people that make me anxious are the drunk ones. But that also happens rarely, the public transport is for me a safe place. Also many streets are lighten up in the dark.
Posted: July 29, 2024Salzburg is pretty safe, especially at daytime and in crowded spaces. However, I would recommend not walking everywhere alone at night or at least having someone checking up on you if you do so. Personally, I feel pretty safe in the old town and using the public transport.
Posted: July 13, 2024I‘ve lived here for four months through a student exchange program and have never felt unsafe. I am mindful of pickpockets in busy areas, but have never heard of it happening since I’ve been here. I‘m just cautious about that in general. The public transit is very reliable and I always feel safe, even when traveling alone after dark
Posted: June 14, 2024Salzburg is fairly safe. Depending which are and what time. I have lost my wallet and ID once and both was fully returned. I don’t think anyone ever stole from me and I can’t reaally remember if something like that happened to people I know. So its not as common as in other European countries but if you are in crowded places always look out for anything. As I’ve lived there for 24 years, of course, I have had a few uncomfortable experiences, but most of them happened while going out or at night, so if you make sure you don’t stay alone at those times, you don’t have to worry about a thing.
Posted: April 15, 2024It's a safe city as long as you don't get to know the wrong people. There are a lot of crazy people and stalkers, so take care whom you meet up with, why and when. Most men I got to know here were disgusting.
Posted: April 10, 2024I feel incredibly safe here. People treat you kindly and unless they are really drunk, nobody invades your personal space. If you forget something in a coffee shop, for example, you can be sure that it will be there the next day. The crime rate is very low here and normally people are kind with everyone

Salzburg is super safe to travel as a female solo traveller. I used public transport to go around (I took the 3 day tourist card) and they are really reliable. The food was nice (ate Wiener Schnitzel) but unfortunately I didn't really explore the culinary. I was also registered to the free-walking-tour. Was the best decision because not only someone can "show" you around but also you got interesting information!

Safe place for doing the solo trip and the view is beautiful in summer. I really enjoyed the sight view of the city and it’s a busy city but also kinda chill city. You can go to the mountains and the city just in less than one hour

music lover | queer friendly love meeting new people and want to start travelling solo :)
Sarah
I am a 24 year old female, studying in Salzburg & working in Vienna (Austria). I love dance, music, photography, crocheting, hormonal health, horses and the English language. I very rarely travel for the sake of just exploring new places; most often I find myself taking on new cities because of a specific event that is taking place there, like concerts or exhibitions - and I love love meeting new friends on the way! I would much rather spend an afternoon exploring exciting topics of conversation over a nice cup of coffee, than visiting the sights; hopefully building lifelong friendships and developing an international network as I go! I value open communication, respecting boundaries and active listening. If this is given, I feel like I am able to connect with people of all walkes of life and all types of humour; and I'm definitely curious of meeting people that can challenge and expand my own worldviews.
