Salzburg is in comparison to other cities very safe - I have often times walked alone through the city at night without any negative incidence, also walking home from the main station. That being said, of course things happen like everywhere! If you keep your guard up and avoid the Lehener park at night, it should be pretty safe.

I grew up in Salzburg, and I have never felt uncomfortable or threatened here. The city is very safe, with a strong police presence at all times. I live almost in the city center, and I often walk, take the bus, or use Uber to get home late at night without any issues.

Like every place on earth you feel a little scared walking alone at night but honestly nothing bad ever happened to me or to anyone I know. A friend of mine got their house robbed once but that's because they left their door open. I've never been catcalled, groped or threatened.
Posted: April 23, 2025depends in which part you are. overall is salzburg a save city. avoiding lehen at night time is definitely a good decision. No need to worry at day time. enough people in the city which will help you if you need some.
Posted: March 27, 2025It's very safe as it's a touristic place, no body can talk to anyone badly and also police is always around. I can also travel in night which is for me safe and people here are cooperative. Salzburg is small but beautiful.

i felt safe but people look at you curious or weirdly if you look alternative, walk barefoot or are vegan haha but i mean that kind of makes it more interesting people there are very bougie but there is a cool art museum you should go to in the Wiener-Philharmoniker-Gasse near University. Just keep your eyes open!

I am Sarah (she/her) a 24 year old living in Salzburg. There I study Communication, Culture and Participation with a focus on Diversity, Gender and Equity. I am passionate about learning & spreading knowledge about gender equality. I work in a Salzburg-based initiative that empowers women from diverse backgrounds through intercultural dialogue, workshops, and community events. I also love dance, music, crocheting, horses and photography - currently I am building my portfolio as a concert photographer. Most often I find myself travelling to new placee because of an event that is taking place there, like concerts, festivals or exhibitions - and I love love meeting new people on the way! I would much rather spend an afternoon exploring exciting topics of conversation over a nice cup of coffee with a new friend, than visiting the sights; hopefully building a lifelong friendship as we go! Upon meeting me I am usually a rather quiet person who listens and asks a lot. I value open communication, respecting boundaries and active listening. If this is given, I feel secure to open up and show my passionate and energetic side and thereby really connect with a person. I respect all walkes of life and appreciate various types of humour; and I'm definitely curious of meeting people that can challenge and expand my own worldviews.
