Is Thailand safe for solo female travellers?

Thailand is generally safe for solo female travellers. The country is known for its friendly people and welcoming culture, and the majority of visitors have a positive experience. Women should take the same precautions as they would in any other country, such as avoiding walking alone at night, being aware of their surroundings, and not carrying large amounts of cash. With a little common sense and preparation, solo female travellers can have a safe and enjoyable experience in Thailand.

Solo travel experience

I went alone to Thailand for a month. It's very safe. I never felt scared and never found myself in dangerous situations. It's easy to get around the country because everyone helps you, and there are many people traveling alone. No problem with the language.

Solo travel experience

I visited Thailand for two weeks and I enjoyed it so much. I went north to south. I slept in hostels and felt very safe, except for the mosquitoes attacking me.

Solo travel experience

Thailand is an amazing country with incredibly kind locals. I stayed in Bangkok and Koh Samui. I felt very, very safe. Highly recommend the Grab app for ordering transportation. It's just like Uber. You know the driver's identity and the price prior to the ride.

Safety tips for solo female travellers in Thailand

Thailand can be a safe destination for solo female travelers, but it's important to take some precautions to ensure your safety. Here are some safety tips for solo female travelers in Thailand:

  1. Be aware of your surroundings at all times and trust your instincts. Be aware of people who may be trying to take advantage of you, and be aware of any areas that may be unsafe.

  2. Dress conservatively and avoid wearing revealing clothing. This will help you to blend in and avoid unwanted attention.

  3. Avoid travelling alone at night, especially in unfamiliar areas. If you must travel at night, try to do so with a group of people.

  4. When travelling alone, try to stay in well-lit areas and avoid dark alleys or deserted streets.

  5. Don’t accept drinks from strangers, as they may be spiked with drugs.

  6. Don’t carry large amounts of cash with you, as this can make you a target for thieves.

  7. Don’t flash expensive items such as jewellery or electronics, as this can make you a target for thieves.

  8. Don’t leave your belongings unattended, as they may be stolen.

  9. Don’t hitchhike, as this can be dangerous.

  10. Research your destination before you travel, so you know what to expect and can plan accordingly.

About Me

Hi everyone! I’m a 28-year-old Thai who lives near Bangkok. MBTI: INTJ Enneagram: 5w4 I love going on day trips around Bangkok with my family and friends. I found that there are many magical places in Bangkok that many people haven’t visited yet. So, it would be my pleasure to share them and spend time there with you. If you want a local who can recommend some great places and awesome activities around Bangkok, I am very pleased to recommend you or be your trip buddy! Besides, I graduated from the faculty of liberal arts in Thai language. If you want a native can teach you some basic Thai, I am very glad to meet you too! My English may be not good enough to communicate with you in all contexts, but I am eager to learn more. 😃

I’m traveling to Thailand in January!! Has anyone taken the train from Bangkok to Chaing Mai?! I’m wondering if it being scenic is worth the 12 hour trip or if I should do a 1.5 hour flight instead?
