Safety:Safe

California is generally safe for female solo travelers, with its diverse and welcoming society. However, like any popular tourist spot, there can be instances of petty crime, such as pickpocketing, especially in crowded areas. Tourist spots, public transport, and hotels are frequently patrolled, offering a sense of security. As always, it's crucial to remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings, especially when moving around at night. Do thorough research about where you're planning to visit, utilize reliable forms of transportation, and be cautious while interacting with strangers.

Transport:Moderate

California offers a variety of ways for solo travelers to move around, but the efficiency and convenience greatly depends on the region. Major cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco do have public transportation systems, though they can be inconsistent and extensively sprawling. More remote tourist destinations such as national parks could be challenging without personal transport. Generally, the best choice is a combination of rideshares, public transport, and sometimes renting vehicles for remote areas.

Things to do:Fascinating

California is an incredibly diverse state offering a plethora of activities; from exploring the buzzing metropolis of Los Angeles, home to Hollywood and iconic beaches, to the alluring wine country in Napa Valley. Furthermore, the natural beauty of national parks like Yosemite and Joshua Tree provide unique hiking opportunities. Art enthusiasts will appreciate cities like San Francisco with its famed museums and galleries. Surfing enthusiasts can take to the waves at Huntington Beach, while foodies can explore California's culinary scene, which boasts a wide range of cuisines from all over the world.

Food:Excellent

The culinary scene in California is known for its diversity and high quality. Taking a gastronomic journey in California simply means experiencing an explosion of flavors from every corner of the world. You can find virtually every type of cuisine here, whether it be Mexican, Italian, Japanese, or a fusion of multiple cuisines. The availability of fresh local produce and seafood adds to the unique flavors. In addition, California is famous for its special take on farm-to-table concept, making sure every bite you take is fresh, organic and sustainable. Whether you're a vegetarian, vegan, seafood lover or a steak enthusiast, California is guaranteed to have something to tantalize your palate.

Budget:Moderate

While California can be pricey, especially in areas like Los Angeles and San Francisco, there are also more affordable regions like Sacramento or Fresno. Costs can also be mitigated by using public transportation, eating at local markets, and staying in hostels or budget hotels. However, flights, attractions, and dining can add up quickly, specifically if visiting major tourist spots.

Is California worth visiting?

Solo travel experience

I studied abroad in Los Angeles and I had the time of my life! I can definitely recommend going to California in general! There are so many beautiful places that you can visit. For example: Yosemite, La Jolla, Naples Island etc.

Family travel experience

I traveller with my family so immediately felt safer with my dad with me, we did a tour of California stopping in LA, San Fran, San Diego & Monterey. At all these places we stayed in either a hotel or AirBnB which were in nice areas so never had a safety issue. The only unsafe area was San Fran mainly due to the fentanyl crisis. It was expensive all round to do or eat anything but that was expected Would defo recommend going with friends or as a group as I didn’t mean many other people
