Is Koh Samui good for solo travel?

Koh Samui is generally secure for female solo travelers. The locals are hospitable and willing to help. There's a strong community of expatriates as well as solo travelers. The island as a whole is accustomed to tourists giving it a safe environment. Nonetheless, it is always important to take general travel precautions like not walking alone late at night in deserted areas, and being careful with personal belongings.

Koh Samui has a relatively simple navigation system, with a circular main road that accesses most tourist points of interest. However, the road quality may vary and there might be heavy traffic during peak hours. In addition, public transportation options are limited and often require negotiation of fare. The island's terrain can be quite hilly and challenging for those unfamiliar with it though, but local taxis and hired vehicles can make your movement around the island smoother.
