Is Tangier Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Tangier is relatively safe for solo female travelers even at night. Like any city, there are neighborhoods which are safer than others and it’s always important to stay aware of your surroundings. It's recommended to avoid remote areas and keep to larger streets where there are more people. Main tourist areas tend to be well-lit and patrolled. Most locals are friendly and helpful, but scams can be an issue. It's not uncommon for women to receive some unwanted attention, but generally, threats to personal safety are low. As always, personal experiences may vary, so take normal safety precautions such as not displaying valuables openly and being aware of your environment.

Public transportation:Moderate

Public transportation in Tangier, including taxis and buses, is generally safe. However, as a lone female traveler, you may encounter occasional hassles or discomfort. Always verify your route and negotiate taxi fares upfront to avoid disputes. Nighttime travel might be a bit challenging, hence recommended to take taxis versus walking. Also, displaying confidence and respecting local dress codes are helpful. Use common sense and vigilance as you would in any other city.

Solo travel

Tangier is a smaller city in nothern Morocco, and i traveled solo off season in April 2024. Overall i met the nicest people ever there but also had to experience some harassment. I recommend to not walk around alone unless its city center, because cars will stop and honk at you (no matter what you dress like). I recommend using Taxi Apps because public transport is not that reliable. Food is amazing and cheap!

Solo travel

I was in Tangier and it was simply wonderful there, with sea views, beautiful weather and really low prices. The city has such a rich history as a place of artists and writers, one of my favorite places I've ever visited.

Tangier is safe, just avoid very local places and neighberhoods. The more youare surrounded with people the more you will be safe. Touristic places are always safe, also in the city center.

As long as you're avoiding dangerous areas, like those poor and far neighborhood no one gonna come towards you, you can be totally safe in the medina and other touristic places. Even if you have to go to other neighborhood, you can be safe if you wear some covered clothes (not showing clivages or too much from your body).. I myself wear t-shirts and medium skirts.
