Safety:Safe

Casablanca is generally safe for solo female travelers, but it's recommended to take some precautions. Local customs should be respected by dressing modestly, and you should take care to avoid less populated areas, particularly at night. Although instances of serious crime are relatively rare, petty theft like pickpocketing is quite common in crowded tourist areas. Use trusted transportation means, preferably arranged in advance to avoid roadside haggling. Be aware of your surroundings, trusting your instincts, and you'll likely find your journey to be a memorable one.

Transport:Moderate

Navigating through Casablanca might present some challenges as English is not widely spoken, but an understanding of French can ease communication. The city is large and although the major landmarks are spread out, they can be reached by taxis or trams. Some areas might be overcrowded, making it potentially overwhelming. However, it offers a rewarding city experience once you get the hang of it.

Things to do:Interesting

Casablanca is vibrant with cultural experiences and historical sights. You can visit the majestic Hassan II Mosque that sits beside the Atlantic Ocean, offering breathtaking views. The Old Medina is a must-see for anyone interested in history and traditional Moroccan architecture. Foodies will enjoy diverse culinary delights, especially seafood. For shopping, the Morocco Mall and the Habous Quarter provide unique pieces from local artisans. However, nightlife is not as lively as other large cities.

Food:Excellent

Casablanca offers a distinct and rich gastronomic experience, deeply rooted in Morocco’s traditional culinary heritage. The diversity is outstanding, with choices ranging from local Moroccan dishes such as couscous and tagine, street food like shawarma and brochettes, to seafood fresh from the Atlantic. Besides traditional cuisine, you can also find a surprising variety of international food, reflecting the city's cosmopolitan nature. There's a universal focus on fresh produce, aromatic spices, and hearty flavors that will delight your taste buds. However, navigating the food scene might be challenging if you're not familiar with Moroccan food or don't speak French or Arabic.

Budget:Moderate

Casablanca is moderately budget-friendly. Accommodation prices can vary widely depending on the style of housing you choose but generally, it is affordable. Eating out at restaurants can be somewhat pricey, but this can be offset by enjoying the equally delicious and varied street food which is significantly cheaper. Local transport and sightseeing are also quite economical.

Couple travel experience

Casablanca was the only city in Morocco where I felt uncomfortable and, at times, unsafe. When I was alone on the street for a few moments without my partner, a man showed up and followed me, and only disappeared once my partner came back. In Cafes, I was ignored by the staff, even though I was the one speaking French, thus normally doing the ordering. The mosque is indeed very beautiful, but overall, I wasnt impressed with my time in Casablanca.

Solo travel experience

I went to Casablanca as a solo woman and had several unpleasant experiences. Men were staring at me and following me on the streets, as well as in my hotel. Taxi drivers with incredibly old and dangerous cars were constantly trying to scam me. I feel it could have been a nicer experience if I had gone there with a male colleague or in a group. I've traveled a lot, but I've never had such negative experiences as in Casablanca. In the end, I was simply happy to return home. I certainly do not recommend Morocco for solo female travelers.
