Safety:Safe

Palermo is mainly safe for solo female travelers. Like any major city, it has its share of petty crime, but violent crime is uncommon. Normal precautions like staying in well-lit areas, not walking alone late at night in deserted areas, and being alert to your surroundings should keep you safe. For additional safety, always keep emergency numbers handy. Furthermore, locals are typically friendly and helpful. Just remember, as with any city, it's important to stay vigilant and aware no matter how safe the environment feels.

Transport:Easy

Palermo has a relatively innate navigational structure, and can be explored comfortably on foot, with most places of interest being within walking distance from the city center. Signage is clear, and locals are usually friendly and willing to help if you get lost. While it doesn't have a metro, the city has efficient bus routes that cover most areas. However, traffic can be a bit chaotic. As for safety, just practice usual precautions as in any other major city.

Things to do:Interesting

Palermo offers a rich tapestry of history, culture, and cuisine that can keep any solo traveler engaged. From exploring the stunning Palazzo dei Normanni to wandering through the bustling Ballarò Street Market, there are countless activities to indulge in. Art lovers can lose themselves in the abundant churches and museums housing incredible works of art. For foodies, the local cuisine is a journey on its own, the street food market offers a wide array of delicious local dishes. Scenic landscapes and beaches are also near the city for outdoor enthusiasts. However, some areas might feel a bit overcrowded and intimidating for a solo traveller.

Food:Excellent

Palermo, as the capital of Sicily, offers a rich and diverse culinary experience. A delightful meander through traditional Sicilian cuisine, with influences from Greek, Arabic, and Spanish culinary culture. From delectable seafood dishes to a wide array of pastries and desserts, you get to encounter a vivid variety of flavors. Especially noteworthy are the city's vibrant street food scene and the fresh local produce available in its bustling markets. Vegetarians and omnivores alike can find abundant options, making it a food lover's paradise.

Budget:Moderate

Palermo can be seen as moderately budget-friendly, especially when compared to other popular Italian cities. Accommodation is typically cheaper, although it varies noticeably depending on the area. Eating out can be inexpensive if you opt for local trattorias and street food markets. Attractions are also mostly reasonably priced, but exclusive experiences can result in a higher spend. Public transportation is affordable, but a lot of the sights are walkable which can help in saving.

Solo travel experience

I went to Palermo quite a few times now, and I really recommend it. Beware of the fact that in summer it is incredibly hot, and packed with tourists. I would recommend going in April/May. People are very lively there, especially in Ballarò. It isn't the safest city, I would recommend not travelling with any jewelry, that is my personal preference. The food is amazing there and inexpensive: go to "il signor Carbognano for an amazing Ice cream with Brioche"

Solo travel experience

I spent 2 nights in Palermo and I enjoyed my time. It gave a vibe that no other city gave before. The city is a fusion of different cultures and you can see the multicultural effects in everything which I loved. I'm not so used to traveling solo, at first because of all the catcalling I was a little uncomfortable but then I tried to be in busy places and streets and felt somewhat safe.

Solo travel experience

I loved Palermo. I stayed in a beautiful Airbnb, which was totally affordable and close to everything. On the first evening, I participated in an Airbnb tour with a woman from there and she showed me amazing things, making me feel totally comfortable. I loved Italy and Sicily.

Solo travel experience

I was in Palermo for 4 days last October as a solo traveller. Not once did I feel unsafe, even in the evenings. Full of life, full of people. I loved it.
