Safety:Very safe

Lake Como is generally safe for solo female travelers. The locals are friendly and helpful, plus crime rates are low. However, as with any destination, it's important for travelers to stay alert, especially during nights and when in crowded places to avoid petty thefts.

Transport:Easy

Lake Como in Italy provides an average level of ease for solo female travelers. The area is widely recognized for its safety and hospitability. However, travelers might encounter occasional language barriers and complex network of towns. There are various methods of transportation to navigate the lake, including boats, buses, and trains, providing various options for convenience and comfort. Yet, understanding the schedules and routes may require some learning and adaptation.

Things to do:Fascinating

Lake Como is a spectacular destination with plenty to offer. Its breathtaking beauty, charming villages, and grand villas offer an unforgettable experience. There are multiple activities to indulge in such as boat tours, exploring the historic sites, hiking in the surrounding hills, and tasting the local cuisine. Add to that the shopping opportunities and simply relishing in the tranquillity of nature or the buzz of towns like Bellagio and Como. Overall, it provides a blend of relaxation, adventure, culture, and culinary delights.

Food:Above average

The culinary scene in Lake Como is fantastic and varied, offering a delightful mix of traditional Italian and Lombardy cuisine. Fresh produce, mountain cheeses, succulent meats and, of course, the seafood from the lake itself take center stage. One can also find a good variety of wines from the region. However, while diverse, options might not cater to all dietary needs, which slightly limits its scope.

Budget:Expensive

Lake Como is known for its luxurious villitarian ambiance where high-end resorts and Michelin star restaurants reside, making it potential for quite a lavish expenditure. However, with careful planning and opting for budget accommodations and eateries, it can be manageable but still leans towards the expensive side.

Solo travel experience

I took a trip to Lake Como in September last year. It was amazing. One of the best places I've visited alone. It was very easy to get around, although I had to constantly track bus departure hours, especially on Sundays. Frequent boat trips and buses in the city of Como. I stayed on the east side, in a beautiful B&B guesthouse. One of the best experiences of my life.

Lake Como was so crowded when I was there last August (especially Bellagio), that I didn't like it at all. I prefer Lake Garda, because it is much less crowded.

Solo travel experience

I didn't like Lake Como. It was very crowded and the ferries were not very good. I spent 4 days there, which was enough. If I were to return there, I would take a train to Varenna and stay there.

Solo travel experience

I loved Lake Como. Hiking through the nearby small villages was on my bucket list and it was great. I stayed there for a while, but definitely needed more. Como and Bellagio are nice, although they are the most touristic places. However, the views there are fantastic. I also took a pizza-making course on Airbnb, which was really cool. I went to Lecco and took a really nice walk there, where I could see where the lakes meet, and walked through part of the town, I recommend it. Small towns, possibly a bit boring for some, mainly older people were there, but it was very peaceful.

Solo travel experience

I went to Lake Como at the end of May. I stayed in the most stunning hostel in Domaso on the north of the lake, which is called Lake Como Beach Hostel. The food and drinks at the hostel bar were very cheap. Varenno and Bellagio were quite expensive.
