I was in Debrecen, Hungary for a volunteer I did. I stayed about 6 months and the truth gave me time to know how people are, culture, customs, meals, etc. The truth is that the experience was quite improvable, the organization that "hired me" for volunteering was a disaster. I had difficult times but I also had a good time (outside the volunteer hours). Together with other volunteers we met Budapest, Tokaj, and other parts of Hungary. Sincerely, the Hungarian diet is bad, they eat everything with fat and that, but they explained that it was part of their history. People are, I don't know how to say it, something reluctant to foreigners in Debrecen. I mean, they are nice and such, but hey, you don't always meet kind people. And it is true that there are but not so much.

Debrecen is a very safe city. I often walk around both during the day and at night without any problems. People are friendly, and the atmosphere feels calm and peaceful. Public transportation is reliable, and the streets are usually clean and quiet. Like anywhere, it’s good to stay aware, but overall, Debrecen feels like one of the safest cities I’ve been to.

Like every other city, Debrecen also has its rougher, more run-down neighborhoods. Fortunately, these areas make up only a small part of the city, and even they are generally considered safe during the day. At night, I would avoid them when alone, but elsewhere in Debrecen I feel perfectly safe walking alone even in the early hours of the morning.
Posted: May 20, 2025It's a safe place for girls, more than Budapest, for example. I never heard that someone experienced something bad here. However, Nagyallomas, which is the train station, is not safe at night. It is full of drunk people.

There is a lots of hospital and police stadion. You can walk alone at night without worring about robbers. Some of the people are so kind and helpful. It's easy to navigate the city. There are taxis and bus, so you can use public transport.

Heeeey!!I’m Lara 🙋♀️ I’m 17 and basically obsessed with everything international — travel, cultures, languages, people… you name it. ✈️🌍 Every chance I get, I’m either planning my next trip or already packing for one.I’ve been traveling regularly with my family since I was a kid (Spain is our second home at this point 🇪🇸💛), and solo travel doesn’t scare me either — I spent a whole year in Italy as a foreign exchange student, and honestly? It changed my life. completely. That year taught me so much — how to be independent, confident, and flexible in new situations. I came back speaking fluent Italian 🇮🇹 and with even more motivation to explore the world. I’m also fluent in English (C1) and currently working on my Spanish, because let’s be real, languages open doors😉😉 I’m active, curious, super social, and I always try to bring positive vibes wherever I go 🌞. Oh, and I’ve also learned how to multitask like a pro (juggling school, language learning, and babysitting my younger brother and cousins has definitely trained me well) 😅 Long story short: I’m ready to explore more, grow more, and be part of something exciting!!!Can’t wait to get to know more and more people 🥰

Hi! My name is Catalina. I love to travel and experience new cultures — I’ve lived in Portugal, Spain, Romania, and currently I’m based in Hungary. Traveling has given me the chance to meet amazing people and create unforgettable memories. I speak Romanian, Portuguese, Spanish, Hungarian, English, French, and a bit of Italian — and I’m always open to practicing more! I’m super friendly, open-minded, and I love sharing moments, exchanging stories, and making friends from all around the world. That’s what life is really about for me 🌍✨🤗🫶🏼
