Unfortunately I can not recommend any attractions, we only had time to stop at Petrozavodsk and visit a couple of cafes there (those were not very impressive). That was our second backpacking trip and we mostly enjoyed the beauty of the karelian nature. We climbed the mountain Vottovaara, and even spent one night on the top of it. Our trip lasted like 5 days, and we had our tent with us so we spent nothing on hotel, and the only food we had was either sublimates or snacks. I recommend it to everybody who wants to explore northern nature but don't want to go to Teriberka or sth like that. Karelia is very stony and monumental, it is also dangerous - there are woolfs, bears, swamps, but there is also a lot of berries and beautiful landscapes. If you dare, go!
Posted: October 26, 2025My overall experience made me want to come back again as I didn’t spend enough time in Helsinki. It is a very expensive city which is something that you should keep in mind. but overall the atmosphere was very nice, I did feel safe during the day although not so much during the night.

I absolutely loved living and working in Tampere. Kind people. Lovely sights. Beautiful forests. Loved experiencing snow the first time. If you love nature, you will love this city for sure Got to see the Moomin museum. Got to go to visit Vapriiki museum. Lots to see and experience.

Very safe, especially for women. Fun in wintertime, best at -20°. Snowshoeing, cross country and downhill skiing, winter hikes, reindeer on the roads, dog sledging, snow scooter and fat biking, sauna - a ton to do. Local food, especially reindeer, is tasty. Easy to get around even with public transport, KTT airport not far. Prices went up a bit since Corona.

I mean Finland in general is considered pretty safe. People can leave out their stuff to save a seat for themselves and no one will steal things. Except for bicycles, they will be stolen and broken if not locked. I've personally never been afraid of walking alone in the dark, I find it very calming and peaceful. If you walk by a bar at night you might hear some cat calling from drunk men but I've never experienced anything worse than that.

Super safe. Use a bike light and helmet. I have heard so so few stories of anything bad happening. There are some strange people on the street that make me feel uncomfortable, but they keep to themselves.
Posted: October 11, 2025Overall a safe city to live and visit, also for solo female travellers - like everywhere in Finland. Obviously, you might not want to walk alone at weekend 4am totally drunk at certain areas, this goes for all around the world. But most likely even in those circumstances nothing would happen.

Unfortunatelly a few shootings happened months ago but it was shockingly rare and overall Tampere is a very-very safe city. People loves to drink, so the drunk might be concerning but nothing serious.
Posted: October 9, 2025Spent a weekend here and felt very safe both at light and after dark. It was pretty calm and chill everywhere I went (also very clean). The public transport felt also very safe - I would really recommend it for solo trip
