Is Helsinki safe for solo female travelers?

Helsinki is one of the safest cities worldwide you could choose to visit. Crime rates, especially violent crimes, are exceptionally low compared to other major cities. Around the city, precautions are just as you would at home. Be vigilant of your belongings, and avoid unlit areas during darker hours. Public transportation, hotels, shopping areas are all safe and well-maintained. People here generally speak English and are usually more than willing to assist tourists. Emergency services are also swift and effective in Finland, should you need them.

Solo travel

I tend to visit late as I live in the nearby city and the nightlife is better, and I generally feel safe and aren't concerned about being by myself even if it's in the middle of the night and it's less crowded.

Group travel

we went to helsinki with my friends on a ferry for one day. that was actually really fun! we went to see some free museums, national library, walked in city centre, went on small shopping in “normal” and “stockmann” and had dinner. we felt really safe there, walking alone with girls only. i really want to recommend y’all Leaf buffet. it is located in forum mall on 0 floor. so u basically pay 14€ per one person and u can have any amount of food u want. there was like 20 types of sushi, soup,...

I can walk in the night freely and nobody will worry me. I live in Pasila and here is a lot of strange people (drunk or drug) but they don't disturb other people. In general Helsinki is a safe place, include for women

Compared to other cities in the world, Helsinki is a very safe city but there are of course some specific areas you should avoid at night, for example some places in east Helsinki. Overall you are safe here.
