Safety:Safe

Hurghada has security measures in place, particularly in tourist areas, to ensure visitors are mostly safe. However, as a solo female traveler, it's advised to exercise extra caution especially during the night. There might be occurrences of persistent local vendors or cases of sexual harassment, particularly if you're walking alone. It's ideal to respect local culture and customs by dressing modestly and avoid less crowded places if possible. Also, getting a guide or joining a group tour while visiting various attractions can add to your safety. Local people are generally friendly and helpful, but learning a few basic Arabic phrases would be beneficial.

Transport:Easy

Hurghada is a fairly easy city to navigate, especially for solo female travelers. Distances can seem deceptive because many sites seem close but are actually spread out. Taxis are readily available and affordable but be prepared to haggle over prices. Always agree on a price before the journey. Walking during the day is a pleasant option as well, but avoid deserted areas at night. Do remember to respect local customs by dressing modestly. Public buses are available but might be a bit challenging due to language barriers. Overall, with a bit of planning and street smarts, getting around Hurghada is not be a problem.

Things to do:Fascinating

Hurghada offers a plethora of activities for the solo female traveler. The destination is particularly renowned for its stunning coral reefs and turquoise beaches - perfect for scuba diving and snorkeling. The old town, El Dahar, is full of vibrant bazaars that offer a chance to experience the local culture. For the adventurous, there are desert safaris and Bedouin dinner experiences. And for those fascinated by marine life, a trip on a semi-submarine or a visit to the aquarium is a must-do. However, always prioritize safety and respect local customs.

Food:Above average

The food scene in Hurghada is quite delightful as it offers a wide range of cuisines ranging from local Egyptian dishes to international ones. Expect a mix of flavors with plenty of seafood options due to its coastal location. Fresh fruits, salads, and traditional meat dishes are also abundant making it cater to a wide palette. The authenticity in the traditional dishes truly stands out as do the culinary skills of local chefs in international cuisines. However, it does lack some variety in comparison to larger, more cosmopolitan cities.

Budget:Moderate

Hurghada offers a moderate expense for solo female travelers. It's cheaper than most popular destinations, though not the cheapest available. The cost of food, accommodations, and tourist activities can vary. Street food and local eateries are pretty affordable, but luxury resorts and high-end restaurants do tend to be more expensive. Public transportation is relatively cheap, but if you prefer more convenience, taxis and private cars might cost more. Entry fees for tourists spots are generally reasonable, but be prepared for additional costs for particular activities.

Solo travel experience

It's a very safe place full of tourists. Food is good. But the shop vendors are very arrogant and if you don't need to buy anything just don't approach them. All beaches are private. It's nice city but small.

Group travel experience

I was with a friend at an all-inclusive resort in Hurghada and we didn't encounter any dangerous situations - but we decided not to venture outside the hotel complex. There, we felt safe and comfortable. The only problem was that when we tried to walk around the tourist shops, we returned after 5 minutes straight to our hotel - not due to safety concerns, but because of the pushiness of the shopkeepers.

Solo travel experience

I found safety to be varying, more safe in the controlled areas where there is security at entrance gates like senzo mall, city centre mall and the marina. Elsewhere, I did not feel particularly safe, especially around sheraton road, the local tourist shops and sellers can be overly aggressive trying to get your attention. Also, alway ALWAYS USE UBER! Please trust me, this is the safest way for a lone female, of course nothing is 100%, even in uber the driver has argued trying to extort cash from me when I already paid via app. This is a known occurrence, I always show the driver my payment and trip details on my screen before I get in the car and make sure they understand i have already paid and will not pay more cash.

Solo travel experience

I went on my first solo trip to Hurghada. I felt absolutely safe the whole time. The coral reef there is amazing for snorkeling. Fantastic entertainment both during the day and in the evening, the best I have experienced anywhere abroad. In addition, the airport is literally 10-15 minutes away, so the transfer time is very short.
