How safe is Alexandria?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Alexandria has a fairly safe night scene. Well-populated areas like tourist spots, restaurants, and markets are generally secure, thanks to a regular police presence. However, like in any city, there are areas where it's advisable not to walk alone at night. It's best to avoid poorly-lit and desolate areas. Use of common sense and staying aware of your surroundings goes a long way toward ensuring your safety.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Moderate

Public transportation in Alexandria is moderately safe, but it can be a bit challenging especially for solo female travelers. Buses and trams are often crowded, which can lead to uncomfortable situations. Be prepared for stares and attention as foreign women can be an object of curiosity. Always keep an eye on your belongings to prevent theft. Taxis or Uber are widely available and safer, but always make sure the driver starts the meter to avoid overcharging. Understanding basic Arabic will be useful as well as not all drivers speak English.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:High

Street harassment is significant in Alexandria. As a solo female traveler, you might often deal with catcalls, unsolicited comments, or stares that can sometimes become uncomfortable. Remember to dress modestly and avoid taking empty streets or late-night trips alone. You may also want to learn local phrases to stand up for yourself when needed. Despite this, many female travelers have found ways to navigate and thoroughly enjoy their experience in Alexandria.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Moderate

Alexandria generally experiences moderate risk in relation to petty crimes. These might include pickpocketing or bag-snatching incidences, mostly in crowded places, such as markets and tourist spots. As a solo female traveler, it's important to be cautious of your belongings at all times, keep essential items close to you, and avoid flaunting expensive items in public. Be extra vigilant at transportation hubs like bus stations and airports, as these areas can be magnets for petty criminals.

Solo travel

In Alexandria, you should definitely visit the Alexandria Library, the Qaitbay Citadel, the Royal Jewelry Museum, the Greco-Roman Museum, and the Corniche promenade. Alexandria is known for its villas and cafes, as well as fresh seafood and Mediterranean atmosphere. Cafe Trianon is a place with excellent food and the atmosphere is incredible. Spend some time in Alexandria if you are looking for rest. There are fewer tourists here than in Luxor, Aswan, or Cairo. Learn some Arabic during your stay, even though some people speak English, it is less common than in Upper Egypt and Cairo.

In the daytime usually everything is safe and there is no need for worry. Walking in the street and taking public transpirt are fine but I would suggest you avoid very busy places on the bus or metro or street so you don’t feel violated. And dont go out alone at night if you’re not familiar with anything
