Situated on the southeastern tip of Vancouver Island, off Canada's Pacific coast, Victoria offers a unique blend of old-world charm and modern living. Known as "The Garden City" for its enduring commitment to beautiful landscapes and plentiful parks, the city boasts charming Victorian architecture, vibrant history and culturally-rich sites. Famous for iconic structures like the glittering Craigdarroch Castle and stately British Columbia Legislature, maritime enthusiasts will appreciate the bustling Inner Harbour. Victoria is also renowned for its mesmerizing Butchart Gardens that bloom enthusiastically throughout the year. Its temperate climate, outdoor adventure opportunities and flourishing arts scene make Victoria, Canada an alluring destination for travelers worldwide.
Victoria is widely known for being a safe city, even for solo female travelers. The crime rate is relatively low, and most areas are safe to walk around, even at night. However, as is the case with all cities, there are certain parts of the city that you might want to avoid late at night. Always stay alert, follow your instincts, and use common sense when it comes to your own personal safety.
Transport:Easy
Traveling around Victoria is quite easy as it is a compact city with most attractions and amenities within walking distance or a short drive from the downtown core. The city also has a good network of bike lanes and trails if you prefer cycling. Public transportation is available and reliable, covering the majority of the city and neighboring areas. However, some more rural or remote locations may be less accessible without private transportation.
Things to do:Interesting
Victoria offers a delightful mix of historical landmarks, panoramic landscapes, and immersive cultural experiences. With a rich heritage, the city houses enchanting architectural structures like the famous Butchart Gardens and Craigdarroch Castle. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the scenic beauty of Beacon Hill Park and the Inner Harbor. The city also boasts of interesting museums, such as the Royal BC Museum, where you get to explore the region's history. Cultural foodies will delight in the array of local and international cuisines available. However, nightlife is relatively quieter compared to other bustling cities which may or may not appeal to all travelers.
Food:Above average
Victoria offers a wide and diverse selection of food options catering to an array of diverse palates. Cuisine ranges from local seafood and farm-to-table produce, to a variety of international dishes including Asian, European, and American. There are plentiful vegan and vegetarian options as well. From upscale dining to casual bistros and food trucks, diversity and quality abound. The availability of fresh, local produce and seafood contributes to the authenticity of dishes. Victoria falls just short of a perfect score, as specific ethnic cuisines might not be as expansive as in a larger, more cosmopolitan city.
Budget:Moderate
Victoria, has a wide range of budget-friendly options available, particularly in terms of accommodation and food. There are affordable guesthouses, hostels, and budget hotels available for solo travelers. The city also offers a variety of eateries serving good quality food at reasonable prices. However, if you're planning to visit the main attractions or take part in outdoor activities, costs may rise. Therefore, it's advisable to plan your travel and expenses carefully.

Victoria in inner harbour/government street/fisherman’s warf was fun, had a great nightlife and was extremely safe. Walking around by myself at night was not a problem, lots of people and busy touristy areas. Tons of beautiful sights to see around the harbour and great restaraunts. Take in a whale watching tour and be sure to check out butchtart gardens, they were absolutely stunning! Victoria is an expensive city, but definitely worth it. Do a day trip and head out to sombrío beach only 2 hours away for the hidden waterfall and stunning ocean scenery, or goldstream park is 20 minutes away for beautiful rainforest hikes.
The downtown core is unsafe at night as there is a large homeless population with open use of drugs and alcohol. Stick to the touristy areas however and you’ll be just fine!

Being from Vancouver I’m often in Victoria but I love visiting in the summer because I find there are more things to do that are budget friendly. If you stay in downtown Victoria you’ll have easy access to the parliament building, Beacon Park, Fisherman’s wharf and more. Overall Victoria is a safe city and people are friendly. Food is delicious especially the Italian restaurant Pagliacci’s cheap and big portions. Transportation isn’t as expansive as Vancouver but $5 will get you a day pass for the bus which can take you to Buchart Gardens, the butterfly museum and nearby towns. Victoria is great of your looking to do a quick day trip or spend a few days. Recommend to locals and people visiting Vancouver

Victoria has its rough edges in certain downtown areas and industrial spots. General neighborhoods (no matter the location), are safe because you feel the citizens of Victoria are reliable enough to keep an eye out :)

Stay with locals in Victoria
Stay with local women in Victoria who offer free accommodation as part of cultural exchange. Couch surfing is a great way to meet new people, learn more about new cultures and experience destinations like a local.
