Is Vienna Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Vienna is known to be a very safe city for solo female travelers. Statistically, the crime rate is low, and most areas of the city can be safely explored both during the day and at night. Public transport is extremely reliable and safe to use. It's common to see women walking alone at night. Local people are generally welcoming and respectful towards women, and police and other authorities are helpful and trustworthy. However, like anywhere, it's important to be aware of surroundings and to take the usual precautions particularly at night, such as staying in well-lit and populated areas and keeping belongings secure.

How safe is Vienna?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Very safe

Vienna is renowned for its high degree of safety, even at night. The capital of Austria has a low level of crime and strong rule of law. Its transport networks are reliable and secure, providing safe public spaces even during the late hours. It's common to see people, including women, walking alone confidently after dark. Of course, like any city, there can be instances of petty crime but these are relatively rare and can be minimally encountered by taking customary precautions. Lighted main streets and bustling city center areas are generally the safest places to be. Vienna's populace is typically helpful and respectful, contributing to an overall atmosphere of safety and security for solo female travelers during the night hours.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Vienna is notably safe and reliable. There are extensive and timely networks of metro, buses, trams, and trains, which are often well-lit and crowded. The security is good, with cameras installed in most of them and security personnel occasionally present. However, as in any major city, it is advisable to stay aware of one's surroundings especially late at night.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

In my experience, Vienna is relatively safe for solo female travelers. Street harassment is not as common or heightened like some other cities but could still occur, albeit sporadically. Both locals and authorities demonstrate respect towards women, and the city provides a largely secure atmosphere. However, it is still advisable to remain cautious, especially in crowded tourist areas or later in the night.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Vienna is generally considered to be a safe city, particularly for solo female travelers. However, petty crimes such as pickpocketing or purse snatching can occur, especially in crowded tourist areas and public transport. Stay aware of your surroundings and keep your personal belongings close at all times.

Vienna is awesome! I really recommend eating in the Centimeter - a great restaurant with reasonable prices and huuuge portions. Serves both local and European food, so thatโ€™s a plus! Besides the main attraction in Vienna (that I am sure that you know of) there are also cool jazz bars that are worth the visit. Very safe at night, didnโ€™t have a problem with that. Great transportation system. 50 euros a day are enough in you plan to buy some stuff and to eat out but not it the most expensive places. If you plan on cooking, much less will do the work.

I felt very safe. Even though Viena is very expensive I could enjoy it either way. Ut was more of a budget trip so I really tried not to spent a lot. The museums were very expensive but I could visit 2, one of them was free at that day and the other one โ€œ musa museumโ€ is free so I still get to enjoy. If youโ€™re able to spent more on that I would recommend Albertina museum. I stayed at the Metro apartments for 3 days and it was like 70โ‚ฌ. Itโ€™s pretty good I think and it was only one hour walking from the center. If youโ€™re visiting on Christmas I recommend to check the Christmas markets. Food recommendation - wurstelstand. Thatโ€™s it, have a safe trip:)

I can say that Viana is a safe city. I stayed in a nice hotel in the city center and walked to the X-mas markets. Although it got dark early and it was the most crowded time of the city, I did not have any security problems. .

I love Vienna! It was my first solo journey and Iโ€™m so grateful for this experience!!! I felt completely safe there, thatโ€™s a city with amazing history, culture and food! Iโ€™ve spent not that much, because I like to travel cheap, so I ate mcdonalds and food from supermarket. I used couchsurfing for staying there, it was an amazing experience!!! My couchsurfer was a girl with amazing energy and we were talking a lot about our cultures. Iโ€™m in love with Albertina museum and I recommend you to visit it, itโ€™s amazing! Transport arenโ€™t expensive, so I liked it too

Vienna is a very safe city. I really enjoy walking around. We travel there in January 2024 so he was very very cold. The restaurants are a bit expensive. The best thing about this city is that music is everywhere. We attended several jazz concert as well as opera and ballet. We love everything about the concert. It is a romantic city full of music, we also enjoy our shopping experience there in the city centre ๏ฟผ.

It strongly depends on what area you are. The inner districts are safer than the outer ones because there are mostly tourists and rich people. But in general it is a safe city with a lot of weird ppl

It is pretty safe you just habe to know where not to go. At night there is a good public transort opportunity and a lot of ubers you can take. The bars are also safe to go to. Bartenders and workers are always happy to help.
