Is Vienna good for solo travel?

Safety:

Safety:Very safe

Vienna is known to be a very safe city for solo female travelers. Statistically, the crime rate is low, and most areas of the city can be safely explored both during the day and at night. Public transport is extremely reliable and safe to use. It's common to see women walking alone at night. Local people are generally welcoming and respectful towards women, and police and other authorities are helpful and trustworthy. However, like anywhere, it's important to be aware of surroundings and to take the usual precautions particularly at night, such as staying in well-lit and populated areas and keeping belongings secure.
Transport:

Transport:Easy

Vienna is quite manageable for a solo female traveler. The city is well laid out and easy to navigate. There's an extensive and efficient public transport system, with multiple options such as trams, buses, and underground trains, making all parts of the city easily accessible. The city is also quite walkable and bike-friendly if you prefer more active travel methods. It's culturally rich, making it a great city to explore on foot. However, as with any large city, it's advisable to be cautious particularly in less crowded areas and late at night.
Things to do:

Things to do:Fascinating

Vienna is a hub of compelling historical architecture, world-class museums, and artistic landmarks. It's full of interesting things to do, like visiting the Schönbrunn Palace, Belvedere Palace or the iconic St. Stephen's Cathedral. Coffee lovers would enjoy its vibrant coffee culture and culinary enthusiasts would appreciate the local food markets. Plus, it's a safe city with a reliable public transportation system, making it easy for solo travelers to explore.
Food:

Food:Above average

Vienna offers a great variety of authentic Austrian dishes such as Wiener schnitzel and Sachertorte. The city has embraced international cuisines too. While it might lack a bit of diversity compared to cosmopolitan cities, you will find an array of food options from Italian to Asian cuisines. The food quality is generally high, and there is a strong emphasis on natural and organic ingredients in many places. Vegetarians and vegans are also well catered for.
Budget:

Budget:Moderate

Vienna offers a fair balance between cost and experience. While it is possible to find budget accommodations and affordable meals, renowned attractions such as Schönbrunn Palace and Vienna State Opera may require you to open your wallet a bit more. However, public transportation is efficient and reasonably priced. It's also a walkable city making it cost-effective.

For me is Vienna a little bit overated. I was on concert with my female friends and we stay in Vienna for 2 night. The city is pretty, but food and drinks are too expensive. Transfer by taxi is so expensive so I recommend metro.

I was meant to go to Vienna with a friend but she unfortunately couldn’t make the trip, so I decided to carry on the trip solo and I am so glad I did. Vienna is one of the safest places I’ve travelled solo, and even better, I made friends along the way. The baroque architecture is gorgeous and I would definitely want to live here. As for the food, went for a delicious vegan Wiener Schnitzel for dinner upon my arrival and then had a Käsespätzle the next day for lunch. I recommend going for a city tour and then checking out one of the museums. Belvedere Palace is a must, a lovely museum inside and out. Even though I went in January, the weather was mild albeit windy. I’d still recommend going during that time as well if you’re looking for a winter city break getaway!

easy to reach. Museums cost between 10-20€. It may be expensive if you eat in famous places, but I think it is worth a try. This was my second time going and I had so much fun. You can find cheap opera tickets on the ticket gretchen app. I went to the ballet show for 5€.

Wandering through Vienna, I marveled at the opulent Schönbrunn Palace, savored a Sacher-Torte in a cozy café, and listened to a sublime concert at the Musikverein. Vienna's charm is timeless and enchanting.

I felt safe in Vienna, mostly a calm city. If you are gonna visit for the first time, easy choice. But if you are a little bit adventurous, can be unsuitable. Except that, great buildings, museums and bakeries. Easy to get around, download a map,you will be find, easy to get a sim card.

I went on a 2 day solo trip to vienna, and overall it was a very safe experience. I did have some issues with communication sometimes because the people i interacted with mostly spoke only german. i also went clubbing alone and even that was very safe. i went to the history museum and i stayed at a hostel and also went to a famous Irish pub in the city and got treated really well by everyone. i would genuinely recommend going to Vienna alone!

Super safe! Delicious pizza (try l’osteria and piazza colombo!) German is a bit hard but most people speak English. The prater is worth a visit. Bring cash! Hostels are also readily available and surprisingly good. I stayed at multiple.

I felt safe as i travelled with my girlfriends, but if i haven't i wouldn't have stayed too late out in the streets. After 10 pm, the whole city was dead and we couldn't find many places that were open. And it was extremely cold in april, and we struggled a lot out in that cold weather.

Vienna is like a fairy tale princess City with lots of castles and gardens and just beautiful scenery. It's priced quite high for everything though. Restaurants and shopping were pretty expensive so I just went to the grocery store and bought sandwich ingredients and fruits to eat throughout the day. It's very clean and safe to be there and I stayed at a hostel in a female dorm and met some really cute amazing women to explore and continue travels with!

I visited Vienna recently with my best friend. We stayed at a small airbnb and roamed around the city. I think it depends on the place where u are but we felt a bit unsafe when it came to being outside. We went to museums and the huge luna park in the middle of the city which i fully recommend!!!

Is Vienna safe for women?

Vienna is overall a very safe city. I just avoid some areas at night (e.g. around train stations, dark parks or tunnels) just because it feels sketchy, and taking precautions is natural to me as I lived in less safer contries before but here I don't fear for my safety in general terms. Occasionally you might see someone going nuts in public areas (e.g. yelling out of the blue, not being clear to whom or why) and it can feel a bit scary but it's usually cases of a special psychological condition and they don't attack or anything bad if you aren't interacting with them so not really a problem.

It really depends where you are who you are with and who you are yourself and on so many factors but in general I feel safe during the day in the nice neighborhoods for sure! But Vienna is the most livable city in the world ranking multiple years already and there's a YouTube video also on that how this is measured so safety is a part of the parameters so you can imagine!

Local tips

In Vienna there is something to do for everyone. No matter if you like art, movies, music, architecture, food, partying, you will find events that cater to your interests every day. I especially recommend visiting the state opera one night: you can buy standing tickets last minute for 10€. Vienna is generall a very safe city, so it's no problem to walk around at all hours of the day. Foodwise Austria is a bit bland. Vienna has a deeply rooted "Kaffehaus" culture. To have a traditional experience I would recommend visiting Cafe Landtmann.

I lived in Vienna for 2 years (between 2019 and 2021) and I absolutely LOVED it! There is so much to do, everywhere is just so beautiful, and the prices are very fair, I found it cheaper than other European capitals :) Always recommend it to everyone, as it still seems like a „underrated” place!
