One of the safest cities that I have been to. Many attractions, beautiful architecture, history, good wine. People are really friendly, especially stuff in restaurants or bars. Prices are pretty high but you can find different options. Very clear public transport, it's easy to travel and hard to get lost haha.
Posted: September 27, 2025I felt safe, i had a lot of fun with my family, but I struggled with food because I'm vegetarian. The city is beautiful and FULL of history and art. I loved it. I suggest you to visit the museum of the war because it is underrated
Posted: August 25, 2025I felt safe in Vienna, not extremely but it was ok, the only problem I found in this city was that during August when I visited there wasn’t much to do, most places were closed, and there wasn’t many people around mostly tourists, that’s why I felt like it wasn’t the most authentic experience I’ve had
Posted: August 9, 2025Beautiful, beautiful city! I felt very safe in it (even taking night buses - I can’t really remember of a bad experience). I am from Italy, personally I found it expensive but a wonderful place to stay in and enjoy. Lots of wonderful museums, beautiful cathedrals and if you can travel a bit further from the city centre, you’ll find out its wonderful there too. Safety was awesome, place was awesome. I found food was good! A bit above average, in a good way. I enjoyed the traditional food I ate (not only schnitzels!) but I wouldn’t rank Vienna at the top of my gastronomical ranking. Still good tho.

Vienna is a beautiful city and I felt really safe when I visited there. The signs are clear and the transportation is really convenient. If you forget to by ticket before you get in the car, most of the trains have machines. You can buy it immediately.

Compared to all other big cities in Europe for me Vienna is the safest city. I have lived and traveled other big cities in Europe too, so i guess for me best one would be Vienna, Köln was also not bad travelled few times

It’s really nice even to walk after dark. Most people are nice, smiling and also can help you as a tourist. Most of them know English. You just need to avoid some places with cheep street food like kebabs and some stations during the night, like “landstrace”. And that’s all, I think!

I‘m aware of my surroundings when I‘m walking around in the dark which makes me feel a lot more confident. I‘ve lived here since 2019 and had some men being inappropriate with cat calling or forcingly talking to me. I‘m a bit extra aware when I‘m around the U-Bahn Station Westbahnhof or Gumpendorfer Straße as these are hotspots for people addicted to substances.

Vienna is very safe. Even the worst parts of Vienna are safer than most other cities. It's best to stay in the districts 1-9 and avoid districts 10, 15 and 21 if you want to be extra safe - but I genuinely feel good walking in either part of the city alone. For public transport, U6 is said to be unsafe and there have been some issues before, but they're rare and there isn't any line that you need to avoid.

None of the inappropriate encounters I had here compare to what happened to me in any other city: a "no" was always enough, the population outside at night has a good enough man/woman ratio and the transportation is safe. Here you can go to the bus driver and tell them you aren't safe : I have once been in a tram where the driver kicked a guy out after a woman said something. I do go out at night. But to be fair: I never go to Meidling and Favoriten. I also think that my skin colour and my very simple clothing style do not attract the attention of mean intended men.
