Is Salzburg Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Salzburg is generally safe for solo female travelers. The city has a low crime rate, well-lit and bustling central areas, and the locals are friendly and helpful. While the usual precautions should still be taken, such as avoiding quiet and poorly lit areas at night and keeping an eye on personal belongings, Salzburg is typically considered a secure place to explore alone.

i felt safe but people look at you curious or weirdly if you look alternative, walk barefoot or are vegan haha but i mean that kind of makes it more interesting people there are very bougie but there is a cool art museum you should go to in the Wiener-Philharmoniker-Gasse near University. Just keep your eyes open!

Solo travel

Salzburg is super safe to travel as a female solo traveller. I used public transport to go around (I took the 3 day tourist card) and they are really reliable. The food was nice (ate Wiener Schnitzel) but unfortunately I didn't really explore the culinary. I was also registered to the free-walking-tour. Was the best decision because not only someone can "show" you around but also you got interesting information!

Safe place for doing the solo trip and the view is beautiful in summer. I really enjoyed the sight view of the city and it’s a busy city but also kinda chill city. You can go to the mountains and the city just in less than one hour

Salzburg is a very beautiful city! I really enjoyed my trip there with two friends of mine. We've been to a museum which was really interesting. The city center is clean and there are many shopping possibilities.

Solo travel

I took a day trip to Salzburg by train. I went to the old town for a while, walked around a bit, and then took a bus to the Alps for a small walk. I took a cable car up the hill and from there I reached the highest point. The climb was quite hassle-free, and the view was beautiful. I recommend trying the apple strudel from the old town.

Couple travel

We took a tour tracing the Sounds of Music, which stopped in Hallstatt and it was beautiful there. I regret that I didn't have more time to spend the whole day there. We ate at a restaurant in Hotel Goldgasse, which is a Michelin-starred restaurant. I highly recommend it. We stayed at the Stein Hotel and it was very nice there, right by the canal. Within walking distance of all the wonderful shops and restaurants.

I loved Salzburg. I went there only because I adore "The Sound of Music," so the trip was most important to me. The Mozart's house is worth visiting and I took the cable car up to Unterberg Mountain, which was amazing. I recommend a trip to Hallstatt, it's beautiful. I felt like I was in a village straight out of a Disney movie.

If you go to certain spots in Salzburg in the middle of the night, of course there will be some people you might not want to meet. But over all, even I go to the central station, feeling tipsy, in the middle of the night and still feel safe.

Never felt unsafe as a woman in Salzburg! I guess as it’s a pretty small city with Quote high security standards there‘s not a big risk of being robbed or anything, but I can immagine this happening in crowds sometimes (like at the christmas market in the old town or at ‚Getreidegasse‘)

About Me

I’m 22 years old and have a passion for languages and culture. I’m fluent in Serbian, English, German, (and semi-fluent in Korean), and I’m also working on improving my Spanish and Italian. Language learning has always been my way of connecting with people and exploring different perspectives, which is why I’d love to visit as many places as possible in my lifetime. When I’m not diving into language study, you’ll probably find me on the volleyball court. Playing volleyball has taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to push myself to new limits. I thrive on challenges, whether it’s perfecting my serve or navigating a new culture during my travels. I believe life is all about experiences, and I’m eager to explore the world, meet new people, and learn everything I can along the way.
