For the most part it is safe if you keep to yourself, there are always areas that are less safe than others but stay on main roads and you will be fine. The city centre at night can have weird people and check the news for any protests happening.

Leicester City is quite deprived. There is a fair amount of homelessness. I have not personally come across a crime in the city however there are certain areas I would not want to walk around after dark on my own.
