How safe is Dundee?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Moderate

Dundee, like many other UK cities, is generally safe but it doesn't mean you shouldn't be cautious. It's always advisable to avoid poorly lit and remote areas at night. The central areas are usually quite busy, and there's a steady police presence. However, some less central and residential areas can feel a bit isolated especially at night. It's always better to take a booked cab rather than walk alone in unfamiliar areas after dark.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Dundee is generally considered safe, especially during the day. Most of the buses and trains are well-lit and typically crowded with people, which contributes to the overall safety. However, it's always recommended to stay aware of your surroundings and be vigilant, especially during late hours. It's also advised to keep your valuable items out of sight or securely within your possession to avoid potential pickpocketing instances, although these instances are relatively uncommon.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Typically, Dundee is considered a safe city to visit, even for solo female travelers. However, like in any city, occasional instances of street harassment have been reported. Largely, locals are friendly and respectful, but it is always essential to remain aware of your surroundings, especially during late hours. Most areas in the city are well-policed, and there is strong social disapproval against street harassment.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Dundee is generally safe and locals are typically friendly and helpful. Petty crimes such as pickpocketing or bag snatching can occur, particularly in crowded places, but these incidents are relatively infrequent. Regularly maintain an awareness of your belongings and personal space to diminish these risks.

I am fairly new to the city of Dundee so I can’t say for sure but I would just take all normal precautions. Protect your phone and don’t put it in your back pocket when walking anywhere in the United Kingdom

About me

Hey! I’m originally a New Yorker, and have been living abroad in the UK for 5 years now. I have no plans to return home and want to see as much of the world as possible. I currently work in Urban Design and Landscape Architecture as a PhD researcher. Because of this I love to see new places, especially nature and outdoor adventures. I’m always up for anything to do with permaculture, farm stays, delicious food and good times with new friends.
