It's overall a safe and calm city and I even feel mostly safe while walking alone at night. I feel like people are helpful if you need any help and most people speak English very well, except maybe some of the older people. However, of course always be mindful of your surroundings and take precautions.

Östersund is a nice little town with lots of outdoor activities and amazing food. It is very safe - I once lost my wallet and a nice lady returned it to my home with all items still inside. You will be perfectly safe walking home alone at night or staying out for longer.

It’s generally a safe town that I as a solo traveler would be comfortable with going to. The town is rich with bars and restaurants, the night life is alright, but not a lot of places to go. At night around the bus station, I would not stay alone.
