Transport by bus was generous and cheap, you can travel 2h anywhere per ticket. The second hand shops were very affordable and there were a lot of different boutiques with a lot of different themes which is very nice. There’s a lot of diversity in the shopping experience. There was also a lot to see the parks were very well maintained overall and since it’s a coastal city it was very nice taking a walk alongside the water. Definitely a good and chill vacation spot, it has a lot to offer and especially considering the size of the town. I went there to visit my sister so I lived with her and did not pay for accommodations so I have no idea how much that will cost There’s also bad train connections to other towns for example Malmö, but it is a stop on the way to Öland which is one of Sweden’s vacation islands. If you’re on the way to the islands which should definitely stop a day in Kalmar to experience what they have to offer!
Posted: June 1, 2025Kalmar is a place where you can feel quite safe, I stayed at our family friends place and everywhere was near to everywhere . It was october and i wore a bit revealing dress and went our for a walk, no one made me feel unsafe. There were times I went out with our Pet dog and walked in the forest everyone is nice and they say hi to you and smile. It was quite normal pricewise. But be careful all the shops shut down before 4 pm!

Kalmar is a small town, popular in summertime. In the winter there are a lot less people. Walking home at night, no matter the time, feels safe and during the days even more so! There are areas with higher crime rate but the center is not one of those.
Posted: December 26, 2024It's a safe city. Both young and old people out for walks or biking at all hours. Of course, there is crime in every city, hence why I would never say it's 100% safe. You never know. But as my mother likes to say: sense in the head. Roughly translating to: don't do anything unnecessary or stupid. Public transports are great, walking in dark alleys at night, maybe not so much!
