The City of Malmo relatively safe, quite expensive so not a safe option for a low budget trip, I am from the tropics so I didn't like the Spring weather, however I loved the Spring bloom, I stayed at the Clarion live hotel, a walking distance from the Central Train Station, highly recommended. Spectacular view of the city from the rooftop
Posted: April 20, 2024I didn't fall in love with this city, this might have been due to the season in which I was there (November), but the place seemed quite empty and expensive to me. I only spent one day there (arriving by train from Copenhagen) and I felt safe all the time.

As every town, Malmö has different areas varying in safety matters. Areas like Rosengård, Sofielund, Persborg or Hindby are definitely not worthy a visit specially as a young female traveller. Nevertheless other areas are completely safe at night and a woman risks nothing going there
Posted: December 27, 2024It is complicated. Malmö is dangerous if you walk alone at night in certain areas, but then very safe during the day in other areas. I usually just watch my back from time to time and share my location with a loved one. Some people say it is quite safe, some others say it is not safe at all. It all depends on personal experience I suppose, but having lived here for 6 years up until writing this review, I would say there are safer places to travel to in Sweden (smaller towns). However, you can not miss visiting Malmö either ways, because it is a beautiful city and the people are generally nice :)
