My volunteer experience in Fès was very safe because we were supervised by the local team. We didn’t stay in one specific location, except when it was for the mission. Otherwise, we explored the entire city of Fès. As for the food, we shared traditional meals with the local team. If you come as a tourist, you can easily find these dishes in the medina. However, be mindful if you’re not a fan of sweet and savory combinations, as most traditional Moroccan dishes are like that. To be honest, Fès isn’t the most touristy city in Morocco. Aside from the new and old medina, there isn’t much to visit. Since the city doesn’t have a coast, there are paid pools that you can access for a day, typically ranging from 100 to 300 dirhams. The people are welcoming, and it’s generally a safe country for tourists. However, as a woman, you need to be cautious at certain hours, and it’s also important to respect the local dress code.

i definitely don’t recommend to solo traveling in Fez as a female. Me and my friend (also female) got harassed in every streets, both in the day and night. People try to steal your money telling you that the streets are closed and to follow them. It’s a pity because the medina is beautiful, unique and characteristic
Posted: May 6, 2024I was in Fez last summer and it was amazing. The city is not that big and is basically divided into the "new city" and the medina ("old city"). I recommend staying in a Riad just outside the medina so you can walk around and explore. Generally speaking, I found it to be very safe. I only used taxis (really cheap) to get from the medina to the new city and vice versa. I also took a one-day bus trip to Chefchaouen and that was great too.
Posted: May 25, 2023I definitely do not recommend traveling to Fes for a woman traveling alone. My friends and I (two of us) were harassed by the souks and we got lost because there was no signal to find our way back. We did not feel safe there at all.

So I went with my parents to Fez and I am so happy that my dad was with me. Even he was with me I got a lot of comments from men and they looked very uncortable at me. I was very worried one time I walked by myself without my dad. I would recommend girls don‘t go as a solo traveller to Fez.
Posted: March 2, 2025Fez is the city where I grew up, and I consider it my home. I do feel safe there, but not at night, which is a common concern for women everywhere. Fez is better suited for being with a group of people rather than going out alone.

Hello I am French, single and have been living in Fes since 2007 with my two dogs, a German pointer and a French bulldog. I teach in a French school. I lived in Senegal for 4 years. I have 3 adult children who live in France. I love travelling and meeting new people. I'd be delighted to talk to you, show you around the medina and, if possible, put you up.
