How safe is Turku?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Very safe

Turku is considered very safe even during night hours. The crime rate is relatively low compared to other cities of the same size and the Finnish authorities have a strong presence throughout the city. The residents are generally respectful and stay out of personal affairs. The well-lit streets and visible security guards give an overall sense of safety, making it conducive for solo female travelers to walk alone at night. There might be some drunk people late at night, especially near bars and clubs, but they are typically harmless. Nonetheless, common travel precautions should never be neglected as adverse situations can occur anywhere.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Very safe

Turku offers an efficient public transportation system, comprising buses, ferries, and trains. It is commonly used by locals, students, and tourists alike. Public transport in Turku is known to be very safe with a low crime rate and incidents are exceptional. The timetables are usually pretty accurate and most drivers and passengers are respectful and helpful. The buses and trains are well maintained and clean. Night buses are also available, with no notable increase in safety risks. As a solo female traveler, you should feel comfortable using public transportation in Turku.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Very low

Turku is generally a very safe city with extremely low levels of street harassment. The local population is respectful and conscious about personal space. You can comfortably navigate the city alone, even at night. Please remember that occasional unpleasant encounters may occur anywhere, but they are rare in Turku. Sticking to well-lit streets and populated areas will minimize such encounters because Finns value social norms, and peace and order are well-maintained.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Very low

Turku, similar to most destinations in Finland, enjoys a reputation for being one of the safest cities in the world. Petty crimes such as pickpocketing or purse-snatching are extremely rare. However, as is advisable in any place around the world, you should still exercise a basic level of caution.

Turku is a safe city compared to many cities outside of finland, but as a finn, turku is quite unsafe compared to other finnish cities. You should never leave your belongins behind or get too drunk. Also, city centre is not very safe at nights and id recommend to explore the city during the day and spend nights indoors.

Turku is one of the biggest cities in Finland, but still very safe. The city is cozy and I feel safe here. In Finland you can move outside at any time, of course it's always good to be sure that someone knows where you are and check on your friends, but here I think you can be very peaceful in here.

About Me

I'm easily excited adventurer who loves to experience new things, enjoy the nature and dive into deep talks and different cultures 🍀 I'm following my free spirit and travelling around at this moment of my life, following intuition instead of planning a lot ahead ✨ I'd love to connect with new people and be inspired together 😊 I'm currently in Spain (Conil de la Frontera), planning to visit Malaga (probably 17 or 18th of July). In the evening of 19th of July I'll fly to Finland for a short time (maybe few weeks) and after that I'm off to adventure again 🍀
