Overall a safe city to live and visit, also for solo female travellers - like everywhere in Finland. Obviously, you might not want to walk alone at weekend 4am totally drunk at certain areas, this goes for all around the world. But most likely even in those circumstances nothing would happen.
Posted: October 10, 2025Spent a weekend here and felt very safe both at light and after dark. It was pretty calm and chill everywhere I went (also very clean). The public transport felt also very safe - I would really recommend it for solo trip

I’ve lived here my whole life. Definitely a lot safer than most cities worldwide. People let you mind your own business. There is little crime and only thing I would avoid is being alone in the city centre in the middle of the night, because sometimes drunk men can be really annoying or pushy. If you see a police in these type of situations don’t hesitate to let them know.

I have never had someone harrass me in Turku and feel very safe walking alone after dark in the nights. People here dont really talk to strangers and like to keep to themselves so it is easy to be as you want.

As a university city Turku is filled with young people who take women's safety seriously. If you are ever worried about your safety, seek out a young adult and they are sure to help you! If you see people in colorful overall full of patches, they are uni students on their night out and the safest crowd. :)

hey, I love to travel and would love to do it more solo. I am currently still studying but graduating 2025, and if I can earn enough (if I can find work), I would love to go on an adventure again!

I'm a 37-year-old teacher of English and Polish teacher who lives alone in Turku, Finland. I'm Polish, but I've been living in Finland for 13 years. I like sightseeing, biking, swimming, yoga and hiking. Recently I've started watercolour painting. I also like cooking and jigsaw puzzle. I'm positive and rather laid back, although sometimes I stress too much. I like dad jokes 😅
