The West Island of Montreal is, for the most part, very safe. I’m not a big city person so I don’t go downtown all that often but my brother and several friends live downtown and haven’t had issues. You’ll see quite a few unhoused people in and around the metro stations (subway, underground train, whatever you call them in your area), but I have personally never had a problem with any of them.
