No need to worry about rob and attack on the road, but people here are strangely hospitable sometimes and doing strange move in public. The biggest threat here is war threaten from China. Sexual concept still in the step of stereotypes which makes girls like me feel angry and upset, but here's merely physically insult for sure.
Posted: June 19, 2025Except for a few very small areas in the city, this is one of the safest places I've been to in the world. Walking around after dark, I feel much safer than in any North American city, whether I'm in the street or in public transport.

Lost wallet will come back to you. People more likely to talk to you to help you rather than to bother you. Very little homeless, you would only spot some in cities, but they are busy focusing on their lives rather than going out of their way to speak to a foreigner. Oh and amazing food
Posted: June 8, 2025I used to go out wondering in the street after midnight alone, and nothing bad ever happened to me. I am not worried about being robbed at all, can leave my stuff on the table at the restaurant or McDonald's if I want to go to the toilet.

Taichung is generally very safe. walking around alone at night is safe. sometimes I see other people still exercising even at 10pm. but avoid parks in the evening as sometimes creeps can frequent parks.
Posted: June 3, 2025Very safe for a woman alone. Even at night. People hardly speak English but are very tourist friendly. I was not scared at all regarding safety (public transport, street, at night, …). I travelled the whole country and it is safe everywhere

I’d like to preface that I’m a fluent Chinese speaker and I was born and raised in Hong Kong which is very close to Taiwan so we have similar cultures and a lot of mutual influence, so I could be biased. That being said, I think Taiwan should definitely be your next country to visit. To start with safety, I’d say it’s one of the safest countries in the world. I didn’t encounter any harassment or spot any suspicious guy. I heard from many female travellers also share the same enjoyable experience. I guess it has to do with Taiwan being the first Asian country to legalise same-sex marriage and is a leading figure in Asia on gender equality issues. There are many convenient stores, restaurants and bars (especially in Taipei) that open 24 hours and street lights are on at night in most tourist areas so you feel safe to walk around and have fun all night long. I didn’t have any lost items during my trip but I heard countless stories of foreigners who found their lost items successfully and were amazed that their stuff were intact at the place they were found, especially with valuables like wallets and passports. I found the locals very friendly and welcoming and always happy to offer help. The only thing I’d point out is when crossing the streets, look out for motorcycles because there’s a lot of them in traffic (kinda like Vietnam) and motorcycle accidents are very common in Taiwan so be careful around them. Second of all, it’s very budget friendly. For my solo trip to Taiwan, I stayed for four nights, went to Taipei and Taichung, and spent around £700 for everything together. The plane tickets were cheap because again it’s very convenient for me to travel but accommodation and other expenditure in Taiwan are generally affordable. I stayed at a hostel near a night market in Taipei so I had bubble tea and takeout every night for dinner and each meal cost around £5. Which brings me to the third point, food. If you want the best East Asian food experience, come to Taiwan. Of course bubble tea is a must to try, but they also have amazing street food which is clean, diverse and affordable. Mince pork rice was my favourite before I became vegetarian but they also have a lot of vegetarian restaurants which are mainly Buddhist and have many varieties. I also recommend Taiwanese fruits, I love their mango and pineapple, and they have this special local fruit Sugar Apple which in Chinese is called Shakya because it shapes just like a Buddhist head. I also really love the diverse natures you can find in Taiwan. I went to Jioufen because it was famous for inspiring the scene setting of Spirited Away, and you will understand why when you are walking amidst the old streets. There’s also the Shifen Waterfall in Jioufen which is gorgeous. I didn’t have time to go but if you like hiking I recommend the Taroko National Park. There’s also beaches with beautiful sceneries like Kenting which you can do different water sports. You will fall in love with the wonderful nature this country has. But what I love the most about Taiwan is the people here. They are not just friendly but warms your heart with their hospitality. Whenever I asked for direction, they were always happy to help, one time a middle-aged lady even gave me a free motorcycle ride to where i was going which took about 30 mins on foot but she insisted to give me a ride and said the weather was too hot for walking, in October. They also love talking to foreigners and eager to recommend where you should visit in Taiwan. You can feel how proud they are of their country and how much they want more people around the world to know about them, especially the young generation. There’s so much more I can share about Taiwan but I’ll let you discover yourselves and hear your journeys on this beautiful island.
Posted: June 25, 2025Taipei was so much fun, I was very young when I went there however the night markets were so much fun and food was so delicious. I travelled with family so we all stuck together, some things were a bit sketchy but as long as you stick to the brightly lit areas you’re fine.
