The only time I felt unsafe was when I was riding a bicycle in the city. The driving and traffic can get crazy. I went for a school trip which was agriculture based. Taiwan has amazing farms, landscapes, and nature. The food was great especially the ice cream. The locals were always very friendly. I spent around $350-400 usd on food and souvenirs over the course of two weeks. I spent most of my time in Taichung which is a much smaller city compared to Taoyuan and Taipei.
Posted: November 24, 2024I recommend staying in Taipei for a couple days! My biggest recommendation is tot ur Taiwanese breakfast! Fan Tuan is a breakfast food in Taiwan and it’s basically a rice ball with stuff in it. It’s super cheap at around 40 twd :)

Taiwan was very very safe. It is also extremely cheap and affordable. I stayed at hostels which were very affordable, clean, safe, and quite luxurious actually. Lots of delicious food there everywhere you go.

It's very safe in Taiwan. As a backpacker who was in Southeast Asia, Taiwan is considered more expensive and is comparable to the cost one would incur in Singapore. As there are many delicious street food in Taiwan, it's good to make friends and have people to share the food together! Hostels in Taiwan are more expensive on the weekends as the locals are also traveling within their country. Good to book in advance if you're moving cities over the weekend.
Posted: July 10, 2024I travelled all around the island, half of it by public transportation, and half bu hitchhiking. It was such an amazing experience! People are very nice and helped us a lot in many ways. Food and transportation aren't that expensive, but accommodation can be. I was hosted a couple of times, camped outside and stayed in hostels. If you decide to stay in a hostel/hotel, you better book in advance, at least a day prior. Taiwanese are pragmatic and organized people, and would be too surprised or feel uncomfortable if you suddenly look for an accommodation. For transportation, it's very easy. Just buy the Easy card and use for buses, trains, and subway!

Taiwan is a very safe country for female travellers. It was super simple to solo travel because the trains and bus make it easy to get around and people are helpful. I recommend visiting taipei, juifen, sun moon lake and hualien. The nature is beyond stunning here.
Posted: June 4, 2024Experienced: September, 2023It is safe and lively, it has well organized and highly developed public transportations and infrastructure. People are friendly, so many fun activities can do. Food are tasty, weather is nice during the spring.
Posted: April 23, 2024Experienced: March, 2024I was in Taipei for 3 days. The weather was a bit gloomy during Chinese New Year. We move around with MRT, bus and local train. The service is top notch. On time, cheap and clean. Food is average for me. It's People are polite and helpful if you try to communicate effectively. Taipei is the most safest city especially for solo female traveller. You can walk the street without so much worries. Accept the scooters. They are a bit reckless. I went with a group but will do it solo next time.

Taichung is a safe city. When you go to a coffee shop, you can just leave your bag or cell phone on your seat and just go to counter to order. If you leave your laptop on your seat and go to toilet, that is also fine. Basically you don’t need to worry about stolen or being robbed. The safety of this city is pretty good.

If you drop something on public place, most of the time, you can get it back. People are friendly to offer help, even though you don’t know the local language, they tried their best to communicate with you

Hi, I’m Mandy from Taiwan. Like many here, I love traveling and meeting new people. I enjoy sharing stories and learning new things from one another. At 21, I traveled around my country on foot, and at 22, I ventured to Europe. After that, I spent a few years in Taiwan—my heart and my home—working and exploring its beautiful nature. Now, I’m headed to Australia to continue experiencing the world and all that life has to offer. 🤍✨
