It's very safe in Taiwan. As a backpacker who was in Southeast Asia, Taiwan is considered more expensive and is comparable to the cost one would incur in Singapore. As there are many delicious street food in Taiwan, it's good to make friends and have people to share the food together! Hostels in Taiwan are more expensive on the weekends as the locals are also traveling within their country. Good to book in advance if you're moving cities over the weekend.

Taiwan is a very safe country for female travellers. It was super simple to solo travel because the trains and bus make it easy to get around and people are helpful. I recommend visiting taipei, juifen, sun moon lake and hualien. The nature is beyond stunning here.
Posted: June 4, 2024Experienced: September, 2023It is safe and lively, it has well organized and highly developed public transportations and infrastructure. People are friendly, so many fun activities can do. Food are tasty, weather is nice during the spring.
Posted: April 23, 2024Experienced: March, 2024I was in Taipei for 3 days. The weather was a bit gloomy during Chinese New Year. We move around with MRT, bus and local train. The service is top notch. On time, cheap and clean. Food is average for me. It's People are polite and helpful if you try to communicate effectively. Taipei is the most safest city especially for solo female traveller. You can walk the street without so much worries. Accept the scooters. They are a bit reckless. I went with a group but will do it solo next time.
Posted: March 31, 2024Experienced: January, 2024Taipei was incredibly safe, the people are very friendly and willing to help! There were a variety of activities, including hiking, local street markets and specialty coffee places. It was relatively affordable (especially the food) and I recommend staying at a hostel called Star Hostel Taipei East, which was clean and comfortable.
Posted: March 22, 2024I was in Taiwan in October last year. 100% super safe, traveling is super easy, excellent public transport, people are extremely helpful and friendly. I highly recommend it. I will definitely come back.
Posted: February 9, 2024One of the safest countries with some of the kindest people in the world. It feels safe to walk on the streets because someone will immediately approach and ask how they can help. Lovely people, interested in the world, and conversation, and ready to help however they can. It makes you want to go back there.

Generally there is almost no problem with safety while being in public space in Taiwan. No need to worry if you would encounter pickpockets also. Leaving your valuable stuffs out of your sight shortly is normally not a problem.

I travelled all around the island, half of it by public transportation, and half bu hitchhiking. It was such an amazing experience! People are very nice and helped us a lot in many ways. Food and transportation aren't that expensive, but accommodation can be. I was hosted a couple of times, camped outside and stayed in hostels. If you decide to stay in a hostel/hotel, you better book in advance, at least a day prior. Taiwanese are pragmatic and organized people, and would be too surprised or feel uncomfortable if you suddenly look for an accommodation. For transportation, it's very easy. Just buy the Easy card and use for buses, trains, and subway!
Posted: June 7, 2024Experienced: May, 2024Spend 8 days in Taiwan with family. We enjoyed it overall. Took a road-trip to Taroko and Sun Moon Lake and there are lots more to see. Taipei is vibrant with lots of sights and things to do too as a family with elderlies and small kids.

Hi folks, I’m from Taiwan. I know, a bit far and tiny, but we are strong people and live within beautiful mountains and surrounded by amazing heart-warming human beings. I tend to discover the unknown areas. Talk with locals, spend some time together. I like waste time in exploring. I like beautiful stories.
