As a solo traveler, I felt completely safe, secure, and relaxed while exploring the city. Walking through the cobbled streets, visiting cozy cafés, and discovering hidden gems felt effortless and worry-free. The city has a peaceful atmosphere, and Norwegians are friendly and helpful. Whether strolling along Bryggen, taking the Fløibanen funicular for breathtaking views, or enjoying a quiet moment by the waterfront, Bergen offers a sense of comfort and security that makes it an ideal destination for women traveling alone.

I moved to Bergen from Los Angeles and feel more safe here than ever before. Completely comfortable walking alone at night for miles to get home if it’s too late for buses. Only exceptions are that it’s a university town so many men are drunk on the weekends and can be rowdy, I am luckily not what they are attracted to (not young or “pretty”) so I’m not as nervous as one might be, but I’m still always cautious. Even though Bergen is safe it is always best to be careful around drunk men and boys. And there are 2 pockets of town with heavy drug use and the addicts can be quite intimidating on the streets, although I’ve never been physically attacked they do sometimes yell at you. Apart from those 2 aspects, I’ve never felt safer in a town in my life. Buses are very clean and reliable and the drivers are generally happy to help if you have a question. I avoid taxis completely, the drivers are almost always men with an attitude. Nearly everyone speaks English but don’t expect someone to approach you if you need help, it’s not the Scandinavian way to inject into someone’s personal space, so you must ask for help if you need it.
Posted: February 8, 2025bergen is a very safe city for everyone. you don't have to fear any attacks. the locals are very friendly and welcoming. there are also a lot of tourists and erasmus students. the biggest risk is to fall on the slippery ice haha

Bergen is a very safe city, even in the dark. I can not remember in my 21 years of living here once feeling unsafe at all. Sometimes when I’m bored at night I’ll gladly go for a walk to the city with no worries

Bergen is a very safe city. During day I feel I can go anywhere, with few exceptions, I walk around alone also at dark, in the city. At night I take into consideration what parts I go, but in general I feel safe to go alone also at night. Some areas outside the city i am more considerate, but also here it is generally safe

Bergen is a really safe city. I have gone home from town alone in the middle of the night and never had a problem. Its a great place to travel for a solotraveler as a women. I never exsperienced any dangerous situation here and i livet here almost all my life and is 34 years old now. I never been mugged or felt afraid in any way here.
Posted: September 4, 2024Norway is in general a very safe country. Bergen is no exception. Puddefjordsbroen and Danmarksplass are known drug addict areas. The main thing to worry about is underestimating the nature. Most of the tourists who get in trouble are those who get stuck in the mountains. Read and respect our Fjellvettregler.

Bergen is a super safe city. I really have never felt so safe in any country and city that i'v even been. Plus in the summer time we have kinda "white nights" which makes it even more calm to walk around)

Generally very safe, there are usually some drunk students in the city centre at night, but they don't really bother others. I very rarely feel unsafe alone in the city or outside the city. People mostly keep to themselves

Bergen, like the rest of Norway, is generally very safe. Walking alone at night or traveling around in general is not a problem. Public transport is clean and reliable. Most people speak English and are helpful and polite if you need directions or assistance.

I felt really safe in Bergen, it's a small town but very touristic and that's why it's very expensive. I stayed in a youth hostel and I used the kitchen to cook my meals. There are a lot of interesting things to do around, just go to the tourist information and they will help you to choose a cruise, a hike or other many activites. My budget was about 70 euros each day.
