How safe is Oslo?

It’s pretty safe in Oslo city center. Some low level crime in some places, especially in rural areas far from the city center. Those are local areas where usually no tourists go to. Avoid being alone at night time in those areas, especially for females who doesn’t want male attention.

I have lived in Oslo for thirteen years, and very few times felt unsafe! As long as you stay by the crowded streets by night or by going home from public transport. I trust police officers. Some guards can be violent at clubs, but rearly and if so, rapport them to someone local. I have experienced sexual harassment, as woman and as queer woman. Uncomfortable, but not violent.

I’ve been working until 4am in Grønland (a ghetto) for 1yrs in a fast food restaurant and only one time I was catcalled. But nothing happened more than that. Very night used to get my AirPods and listen to music perfectly. Even if you find drunk people in the bus or so they will not bother you or if so they’re funny and only talk about what’s their or yours fav music, movie or so. Night live in Oslo is rough because Nordic people don’t control themselves with alcohol. They might be “mean” like saying “Shut up!” But will never start a fight. Both men and women and most likely to dance with you and have fun.

Super safe! I never feel scared in Oslo. But; then I am not a person who go out in the nights. I make sure I look after myself. I would never follow strangers. Control alcohol intake. Make sure I have transport available if I am late.

you can feel very free and safe even in the nights! security is very high here. there are polices everywhere and cameras everywhere such as busses, trams, trains, subways, etc. and in every market, shop, etc. as well

Is Oslo worth visiting?

Travel rating

4.2 /5

based on 29 experiences from female travelers

Solo travel

I actually got stuck there for two days as I was trying to fly home. But I didn’t mind because I got to explore Oslo. I ended up sleeping at the airport and exploring the city during the day. The bus system was easy, the town was clean, and it was easy to communicate in English. I didn’t go out at night, so I’m not sure how safe the nightlife is.

About Me

I’m 27. I live in Oslo,Norway and I study nursing. I love to travel but I feel like I haven’t been able to travel much because it’s so expensive. I would love to travel a lot more whenever I get the chance. I love to meet new people when I travel and learn from the locals about the culture and get inside info you can’t get from the internet. I’m mostly busy with school and work atm. Feel free to reach out about whatever.
