Overall very safe for a capital city. Pocket theft is a bit of an issue on public transport near city center, bike theft a major issue. Very little violent street crime, and when it occurs mostly among criminal groups or in connection with drug dealing. Would avoid area around Vaterland at late night, and exercise caution in the intersection Storgata/Brugata due to drug issue.
Posted: July 16, 2024One of the safest city you can travel to. Oslo is easy to navigate. You can explore and see most of the attractions by foot. English language is widely used, the public transportation is excellent, and the city is clean.

I find Oslo to overall be a very safe city, but having lived there for many years I have had a couple of less nice experiences as well that comes with living in a fairly big city. Still, it’s a perfectly fine place to go as a solo female traveler.
Posted: July 13, 2024It is safe. Best tip is to be mindful of areas after dark and party hours. The more attractive you’re seen the more attention you’ll get, unfortunately. But as long as you’re not alone or in an area with other people you’re okay.

I would describe Oslo as a very safe city! Of course, there are some areas I might avoid in the middle of the night, but that's more like a general precaution. I use my bike day and night to get around or public transport. Always felt very safe on both.
Posted: July 3, 2024As a first time solo female traveller, I felt extremely safe. The people are extremely friendly and open to showing you around or guiding you. Public transport is very easy to navigate as well. 10/10 tourist friendly.
Posted: June 12, 2024Oslo is very safe place with very low criminality. Just to be careful about immigrants who are around and might be potentially thieves 🙄 but walking the streets are safe. You might be witness of some drugs around in specific areas only but otherwise no feeling of unwanted.

Oslo is generally a safe place. The only thing to be aware of is certain areas downtown after dark, due to drug addicts and conflicts that may arise between dealers. As a woman I am rarely bothered, but men may find themselves being the target of unsolicited drug pushing and should be careful how they navigate such situations. A polite no thanks, look away and walk away is recommended. There are scammers near the central station. Often young, middle-eastern or South American looking men. They will approach you and ask you for help in English, often with something innocent that makes them look like a traveller in need. Be careful. Also, always show caution when interacting with the romani beggars and women selling magazines. Pick-pocketing and pretty crime happens on packed trams and buses. Be careful to put your phone in a zipped bag in such places, don't put it in your back pocket or open jacket pocket.
Posted: June 5, 2024Oslo is very safe at night, the people are very nice and take care of each other. People are very respectful towards woman, catcalling is not a thing. There is no reason to worry when out in Oslo at night.
Posted: June 4, 2024Norway is one of the safest countries in the world, I've been living here for 2 years now, I can't explain how safe I feel walking on the streets at night, taking public transport and going out. Its a beautiful city to live in and visit.

I stayed in Oslo for a week. It was amazing. The whole city is absolutely beautiful. Felt extremely safe there, had 0 negative experiences. If you're visiting, I recommend buying a public transport ticket for a week or so in zone 1, it's way cheaper, I probably saved about 50 euros that way. The ferries are included in this zone and you must go visit the islands in Oslofjord, they are breathtaking. Also if you love nature you have to visit Frognerparken as well. Eating in restaurants is extremely expensive, so I'd recommend going to local grocery stores and buying the food there, you must try brunost, it's amazing. For accomodation, I'd recommend finding either a hostel or AirBnB (it was somehow way cheaper than hostels) somewhere on the edge of zone 1, since it'd be cheaper.
Posted: July 6, 2024Experienced: May, 2024Solo female traveling in oslo. Always felt super safe even at night. Highly recommand taking a walking tour as it is an easy to make travel buddies. During the summer, I enjoyed taking the waterbus to visit the islands of the Oslofjord. It's an inexpensive lovely day trip especially for spending the day at the beach.

This is an amazing city! The nightlife is great, the public transport is great and amazing parks! Also nice to walk by the sea. I would recommend checking out frognerparken and Aker brygge. Truly recommend
Posted: June 4, 2024I spent eight days in Oslo in June. The weather was amazing, and of course it was light until very late. The parks, palaces, museums, saunas, food and people are wonderful. The waterfront area is full of great restaurants. I loved it and plan to return there.
