Nelson is a sleepy town but sometimes when it’s so quiet it feels rather eerie. Mugging doesn’t occur, but as a woman I think it’s always wise to be with another human in the middle of the nights. I have never been attacked and I’ve lived there most of my life!

I find Nelson a very safe town to live in (in general, Aotearoa New Zealand has a low crime rate). It's pretty busy during the day and relatively quiet at night. I cycle or walk everywhere and have never felt unsafe during the day or at night.
