Christchurch is a very safe city. It has a low crime rate and a welcoming community, making it a great place to live and visit. The local authorities and residents work together to maintain a secure and peaceful environment.
Posted: July 29, 2024Pretty safe! Just stay away from Phillipstown generally or New Brighton at night alone - also guys are super creepy at bars at night (but that goes for everywhere) so be aware. Generally safe place to live in all honesty!
Posted: July 9, 2024It’s not safe walking in the dark especially for women. Avoid areas like Aranui, Wainoni and New Brighton. Please make sure your belongings are not visible in your car. Toyota Aqua is the most stolen car in Christchurch. People will break into the car and take your belongings, then they leave the car stranded in the middle of nowhere.
Posted: June 16, 2024Christchurch in general is a safe city. Not much night life (the city is basically asleep after 10pm) so I don’t imagine many people walking around late at night other than the main city square in the CBD. I have never been pickpocketed or had concerns over this and the general public are easy to approach for help. All general safety precautions should be taken like not walking down dark alleys late at night, you can never be too careful, even in safe cities such as this😊

Malaysia
I was travelling solo from Malaysia to Christchurch for a conference. I met a few friends there and would go around with them. But most of the time I also like to walk alone. Although a few years have passed since the mosque attack, I also feel cautious especially as a Muslim hijabi. But it was all okay, people were friendly and Christchurch to me looks like a city of rebuilding and relearning, especially after the earthquake. I was partially sponsored for my accommodation and flight so I wasn't sure of the rate. I stayed at an Airbnb on my last night as it was near the airport, it was a really nice airbnb with super friendly hosts I walk a lot, the food was okay, but I also tried the Uber and Uber food there.

United States
Visited Churchyard where my ancestor was buried. Viewed the damaged buildings of the earthquake. Drove the Coast, and found an art school, the whole country smelled like smokey bbq. I stayed at a pretty safe small hotel in the City and wandered around. Traveled also to Bali where I met my lovely female orangutan friend at the wildlife park. Liked Bali as I hired a driver and met his sweet family. Ate local fish together- scary fish but tasty. Sad thing, no Batik.

Hi guys! I'm Alex from New Zealand. I speak English and questionable Spanish. I'm a student of history and philosophy and are currently travelling around Europe solo for the first time (first time travelling outside of New Zealand). I would love to meet up and get a sense of the places I'm visiting from a local perspective or potentially couch surf a bit (I'll admit this is an offer I've gotten from several men while travelling but feel less comfortable with doing so). I also love to cook and bake and are always down to exchange recipies or cook for people. Ive just started surfing and playing the ukulele as well though sadly I did not bring it with me. Im currently in Italy and would love to do a vía ferrata with someone as well! Unfortunately I cant host at the moment since I dont currently have a place of my own but would be keen to host in the future and would be interested in showing people around and lending my mini van (which is a bit temporamental but does have a bed) when back in New Zealand :)

Hi lovely ladies🥰 My name is Beimei and I’m originally from China. I moved to Christchurch🌼🌸🌺💐🌻5 years ago and I’m happy to call Christchurch my second hometown💜 I’m a preschool teacher 👩🏫 and I have been in this industry for almost 4 years now(that makes me feel old lol). When I’m not at work, I enjoying strumming my guitar 🎸, playing tennis 🎾, going to the gym, reading books 📚 and exploring restaurants 🍱 in Christchurch. I would love to do more hiking 🥾 this year and also explore other parts of the world 🌎.
