Split is the second-largest city in Croatia, and it is pretty safe. There are many attractions to visit during the day and night. Although the city is crowded in the summer, I never experienced or heard that someone was in a dangerous situation.

Split is a very safe city, women can go alone in the dark without worrying at all. There is no criminal here, no danger of being robbed, attacked or anything similar. You don't have to pay attention to your staff when you're outside and you don't have to worry about your safety.

10€ shuttlebus from airport, nice cheap airbnb next to the famous bačvice beach, colorful and creative bars at night, old town is made of stone and has those neat backyard areas, prices are mostly fixed in shops

I have visited Split twice now within the last 2 years, first in 2022 and then this year 2024, I had a great experience every time! I felt very safe in the populated areas both day and night, anywhere throughout the day is safe, but i’d say avoid some of the small bars outside of the bus station as it can be a bit daunting around there especially at night as there aren’t that many tourists in those bars. But overall I felt safe, the people are very lovely to get to know. If you’re visiting split go and love national parks, visit Krka national park, you can get a flix bus from the station direct to there! Marvlvs library jazz bar is super cool too, it’s within the city walls, they have live music on throughout the week around 8pm! For food I recommend a place called Mendula in Bol area, it’s inexpensive, ran by a group of women, and it’s very good food. For food I also recommend the markets, the fruit and veg is very vibrant, even if you don’t fancy eating there it’s a fun experience, they have flea markets on every day too with books, clothes, jewellery and more! The first time I visited split I stayed in an apartment on Put Plokita, it’s around a 20 minute walk from the city centre, it’s cheap and clean, however it can be a little daunting walking back home at night as it’s a walk through a few unpopulated areas and side streets. I recommended staying at apartment Gorki or in an area nearby to that, it’s a bit more expensive and convenient if you’re travelling as a two or three but it’s just outside the city walls and the host (Marina) was kind and helpful. Transport wise, use the boats, go visit some of the islands! The jordanna boat companies sell their tickets just near the port and in the main boat terminal! I recommend taking the boat to Hvar and Supetar! As for busses, they’re very easy to use, you can buy a ticket at the ticket stand in the bud station or get a flix bus ticket on their website, you can get to the beautiful town Omiš via bus, and the busses are safe! I also recommend getting the bus to Zadar for the day to see the sea organ! If you’re visiting I hope you have the best trip, meet amazing people and see the beauty of Croatia!
