Split us so safe that it's a cultural shock when I travel to another country and have to worry about being robbed. The kids play in the streets alone until midnight and there is no possibility of them being kidnapped (I also grew up that way). There can be a few questionable people on the bus, especially on lines 60 and 37, but you never have to feel endangered they are just in their own world and not harmful at all. If you imagine the safest place to visit, that is Split.
Posted: August 22, 2025Its one of the best safest cities i have ever visited. Im not worried about stealing when I'm swimming in the sea. Everyone is so helpful and nice. The city has overall nice energy and a great place to chill and have fun

For me Split is a safe city, but when the tourist season starts it’s getting a bit less safe. But I still feel okay to go home alone even if it’s late at night. So for me it’s really safe in the winter but a bit less when tourist season starts.

I spent seven days in Split, and as a young woman, I felt completely safe. The streets are lively, especially at night, with lots of people around. Because of that, I never felt unsafe or alone. It’s definitely a great destination for solo female travelers.

I lived in Split for only three weeks now but I think its overall quite safe (i would rate 7 out of 10). I usually go out with other people and I very rarely got catcalled and such, even the few times when I went back home alone in the night after clubbing. Its a small town and overall quite safe, i think sometimes only male turists can be a little annoying since they often get drunk in the evening. During the day is definitely safe (at least the city center, where i live). In any case I never reccomend going back home alone in the night

Tourists are really unwanted here i believe, i had a night interaction with people were they were basically threatening us. Overall it was a great stay but when you there you gotta be informed that it is a new touristic place and that the large amount of touristic devices are a burden for some of the population, so don’t overstep !!
