It is fairly safe for a woman, althrough some women that I know have experienced some kind of harassment. You should beware if you are intoxicated, because there are some men who will take advantage of that. Stay together with your friends during your nights out !

I would say safe as it can be. There are always men who will try to take you home/touch you ect. But if you walk away they will leave you alone Also there are cool places to hand put where people are normal and talkative, where you don't have to be afraid
Posted: May 26, 2025I think when in Rijeka you should take the standard safety precautions of visiting any foreign place, however I can assure that it is a very safe city. There is some crime as is the case in any bigger city but the chances of you getting mugged, robbed, or pickpocketed are very low. More serious crimes (murders, rape, kidnapping) are very rare and usually don't target strangers. However, if you're alone I recommend you stay in the city centre as some neighbourhoods can get a bit sketchy.
Posted: April 16, 2025I live in Trsat and it’s quite safe here in my opinion. It’s the area where most of the students live. I think other parts of Rijeka might feel a bit unsafe late at night. It helps if you’re not walking alone!

Silent and safe place, but after dark, some people who are using drugs or something doing crazy things, and it is a little bit scary. In public transportation, someone tries to stay closer to you and touches mistakenly (?) Also, it is a boring city. If compared with other places in Croatia.

It's safer than a lot of other cities I've lived in. Personally, I feel safe walking both in the daytime and nighttime, and I've never been harassed or assaulted while out or on public transport. But, some female friends have told me that they have been catcalled by construction workers and one of them has been groped by an old man while on the bus, but a young man stepped in and told the assaulter to move unless he wanted the same experience.

My trip to Rijeka was quite fun - I ate some excellent seafood, wandered around the city, and then spent the afternoon reading at the beach with some wine. I felt quite safe, even during my walk in the late evening. It was a very fun experience, however after two days there was not that much for me to do. I would recommend for a short getaway for a solo trip!
Posted: October 16, 2024Experienced: April, 2024I stayed at the Kosy hostel in Rijeka. It was a peaceful hostel with a nice atmosphere. The city of Rijeka was also quiet, but not dead. Lots of cafes and restaurants. The Sablićevo beach was beautiful.
