Split is safe but in crouds be alert of scammers and pisckpockets. Accommodation is not the cheapest and also food. There were a lot of altivities and public transport was eazy and covered the whole area.

10€ shuttlebus from airport, nice cheap airbnb next to the famous bačvice beach, colorful and creative bars at night, old town is made of stone and has those neat backyard areas, prices are mostly fixed in shops

I have visited Split twice now within the last 2 years, first in 2022 and then this year 2024, I had a great experience every time! I felt very safe in the populated areas both day and night, anywhere throughout the day is safe, but i’d say avoid some of the small bars outside of the bus station as it can be a bit daunting around there especially at night as there aren’t that many tourists in those bars. But overall I felt safe, the people are very lovely to get to know. If you’re visiting split go and love national parks, visit Krka national park, you can get a flix bus from the station direct to there! Marvlvs library jazz bar is super cool too, it’s within the city walls, they have live music on throughout the week around 8pm! For food I recommend a place called Mendula in Bol area, it’s inexpensive, ran by a group of women, and it’s very good food. For food I also recommend the markets, the fruit and veg is very vibrant, even if you don’t fancy eating there it’s a fun experience, they have flea markets on every day too with books, clothes, jewellery and more! The first time I visited split I stayed in an apartment on Put Plokita, it’s around a 20 minute walk from the city centre, it’s cheap and clean, however it can be a little daunting walking back home at night as it’s a walk through a few unpopulated areas and side streets. I recommended staying at apartment Gorki or in an area nearby to that, it’s a bit more expensive and convenient if you’re travelling as a two or three but it’s just outside the city walls and the host (Marina) was kind and helpful. Transport wise, use the boats, go visit some of the islands! The jordanna boat companies sell their tickets just near the port and in the main boat terminal! I recommend taking the boat to Hvar and Supetar! As for busses, they’re very easy to use, you can buy a ticket at the ticket stand in the bud station or get a flix bus ticket on their website, you can get to the beautiful town Omiš via bus, and the busses are safe! I also recommend getting the bus to Zadar for the day to see the sea organ! If you’re visiting I hope you have the best trip, meet amazing people and see the beauty of Croatia!

Split was beautiful! For me and my partner, both pale nordics, the sun and heat was too much and we both got sick😆 but I loved the old buildings, narrow streets, fun shops, stray cats, beaches and sunsets. Public transport was easy to use. Only downsize was way too many tourists, and especially at night time drunk ones.
Posted: June 9, 2024Experienced: May, 2024Split was my first solo trip and could not recommend it enough. Felt safe there, the perfect mix of chilling and things to see and do and Croatia is a beautiful country.
Posted: February 7, 2024I felt super safe and loved it. The history and scenery was beautiful, lots of day trips you can do like to bosnia or hvar or any of the islands (and not that expensive!). i also did a day trip to omish which was stunning and went zip lining which was inexpensive and the guides were great for support and assistance as i was a bit nervous but is a must do if you go there! lots of ice cream options. i stayed in a hostel (en route) which seemed sketchy from the outside but very much was not and got to meet a lot of cool people as well as it was a 5 minute walking distance from the beach and board walk.
Posted: January 5, 2024I found Split to be such a disappointment compared to other places I visited in Croatia. It's still a nice place, but all the other places just blew me away with their beauty, while Split significantly fell short of expectations.

I was in split for 3 days and it was amazing, the views, architecture and activities were pure bliss. It was my first solo trip and its given me more confidence in interacting with stranger's. The food was lovely too :) only slight negative is that some of the locals are a bit hostile but if you can ignore that it's great!
Posted: September 18, 2023Experienced: August, 2023My first visit to Split was at Kasjuni beach, which I highly recommend, because the water is simply stunning. It's a bit far from the city center and I didn't see many buses, so it's best to opt for a car or motorcycle. I had a car with me, which made it easy for me to get around between towns. In the evening, I went for a walk around Split, my favourite city in Croatia. Very clean, also full of life. There are quite a lot of cool restaurants and bars, and people were out at night.

I spent seven days in Split, and as a young woman, I felt completely safe. The streets are lively, especially at night, with lots of people around. Because of that, I never felt unsafe or alone. It’s definitely a great destination for solo female travelers.

I lived in Split for only three weeks now but I think its overall quite safe (i would rate 7 out of 10). I usually go out with other people and I very rarely got catcalled and such, even the few times when I went back home alone in the night after clubbing. Its a small town and overall quite safe, i think sometimes only male turists can be a little annoying since they often get drunk in the evening. During the day is definitely safe (at least the city center, where i live). In any case I never reccomend going back home alone in the night
