I would say it depends in which area you are. But at night it is not safe. You should be careful taking public transport because at night it is not safe. You don’t know what will happen and also there are more people that are using drgs. But overall if you are visiting Brussels in the day and you see it, it is not unsafe you can walk freely. You have to be careful for your bag though. 😄

Belgium is mostly safe if you stay in public places and most known cities. All activities are to do in public era. If you walk at nights in small streets where no one is, make sure you are with a friend or never use this streets walk always at places where people are seen.

Brussels is mostly safe. As a woman, I do experience catcalling sometimes though, and I make sure to avoid problematic spots at night (le bois de la cambre or around la gare du nord). Other than that, it's mostly safe.

Brussels is a city that according to each region has a very different safety level. Once you know the exact areas, witch are very easily distinguishable on a map, you can avoid the less safe areas. Overall during the day it's good. Once it is darker, and you come home from a night out, you need to know your route.

Mechelen is a safe space with a lot of police control you can go outside ( you will get catcalled if you look cute, but I think that’s everywhere because men can’t behave lol) you can take the train or the bus without a single worry and I regularly go on a run in the middle of the night without anyone bothering me

I went to Ghent for 3 days and stayed at the Upplink hostel. It was a great experience because the hostel has a lot of young people, it is in a perfect location and very well organized. The hostel staff were very friendly and gave me a city tour. The city is very beautiful and easy to get around because all the attractions are close by. The castle is definitely worth a visit. Try the Ghent Noses. The restaurants are expensive, and for a solo traveler with a very small salary, I think it is worth buying a sandwich at Carrefour for lunch 🤣

Hi there! <3 I’m a Belgian girl from a cozy little town called Haacht — just a train ride away from Brussels, Antwerp, Leuven, and Mechelen! I live with my family (mom, dad, sister and her bf) and my 3 cute doggos. We have a guest room. I’m obsessed with learning about new cultures — I think it’s the most magical thing in the world. That’s why I’m studying International Tourism and Leisure, and I also run a little travel account on Instagram: @travilling.diaries if you wanna follow along! Some of my favorite things? Autumn, hot chocolate, nature walks and hikes, concerts, theatre, Disney, books, city trips, sushi, getting boba with friends, Gilmore Girls, and meeting new people from all over the world. If you’re ever in Belgium and want a local friend to show you around or a comfy place to crash, I’d love to help! My main Insta is @illemaeyaert_ (it’s private, but feel free to send me a quick message if you’re coming from here!)
