Antwerp is a safe city for women in my experience as a foreigner who lives here about 1.5 years. But you need to consider avoiding trusting strangers and giving them your personal information and watching your personal stuff in crowded places.

Very save, just stay away from central station at certain hours. Like 4 of 5 am. I mostly bicke back home from the cafe or local bar, and I feel okay. Uber feels pretty safe, too. During the day, try to pay attention to your bag, especially around Central Station and meir. It is too crowded and some people can have long fingers.

Antwerp is a safe city to travel to as a female solo traveller. Just be careful at night in the area around the station. You might experience some cat calling, but overall you don’t need to worry. The city center and student area are very safe. During the day, you won’t experience any trouble.

Overall Antwerp is pretty safe if you know where to stay away when it's gotten dark. In my neigbourhood (Harmonie) I always feel very safe at night. The touristy places are also pretty safe at night.

It depends on where you go really! There are a lot of people whistling or calling after woman in certain areas. But the city centre is very safe! There are always a lot of people and over all we are all very social and helpful!

I think Antwerp is reasonably safe. I only get approached on the street by men of Arab origin, and they don't always react well when I refuse to talk.

Antwerp is quite safe, just like any other "major" European city. I feel comfortable going out by myself, but in recent years certain areas are to be avoided after dark if you're a woman by yourself - such as Sint-Jansplein

You have really a lot of light at night and always people around. I feel quite safe going out alone when it is dark. Also, if you keep your stuff close to you, it is not likely that you would get robbed.
Posted: May 4, 2024I studied in Antwerp and still often go out with my friends in antwerp. Like every "bigger" city it hase neighbourhoods that are not as safe. But if you stay in the main center it is very lively and there are people at all hours of the day and night. I have never felt unsafe when i went there. But there are some neighbourhoods i would avoid at night.
Posted: March 24, 2024Overall Antwerp feels like a safe city. It’s not big and in the most neighbourhoods you have a lot of social security. I like living here and do everything by walking or biking, also alone and after dark.

I always felt very safe in Antwerp during the day but also at night. There is a lot to do a lot of cute cafés, cool museums and also a lot of political events happening all the time. It rains a lot there tho and it is a very windy city as well. The people I have met were all very friendly and spoke great English. A lot of men kept winking at me or whistling at me but never anything more.

I visited Antwerp in September, which was a good choice as the weather was excellent for sightseeing: 20°C and the city itself lends itself to walking. If you only speak English, be prepared for some inconveniences as locals (understandably) might not be able to communicate in that language. Regarding the most important bit: I felt safe in the city and in my hotel, no one bothered me. I really recommend getting the Antwerp pass, as most museums are included in that and they have a great selection in the area and the price is absolutely fair. The city has amazing food, I recommend visiting the chocolate shops and getting waffles from street vendors-much cheaper and even better tasting! The prices can be higher then some other places in Europe, especially in restaurants so I recommend checking your options before going. Otherwise you will not spend too much money on activities if you buy the pass, so you can save money there. I do have to warn you, that the hotel, flights, food, and souvenirs may add up but it's worth it:)) This was my first solo trip, I loved the experience and I gained valuable insight during this short holiday!

Hi, I’m Anne Marie. For the last years I’ve been travelling and moving around in a quest of happiness and liberty. At the moment I’m back in Belgium to work for a couple of months. Instead of settling down, I’m also seeing my time here as an hour adventure :)
