I moved to Belgium 2 years ago and I really like the city. Brussels is a multicultural capital and fairly safe to live in. I would recommend avoiding walking next to the train stations at night, especially if you are a woman travelling by yourself.
Posted: April 14, 2025There are a lot of people smoking weed, and after dark its not the best place to walk around out of the city center. I haven’t encountered any troubles there, but you should be careful when walking around and look out for your bag and phone.
Posted: April 11, 2025Overall it's fine I would say. Obviously there are some worse areas than others. I very rarely got bothered and I'm often going out at night. There are also lots of people around, so you not often alone in the streets.

I lived in Brussels for 8 months and the “most horrifying” experiences were (high) people speaking to themselves, people asking you for money or something like that. Would not recommend gare du midi/ gare du nord at night but it’s tolerable. Nothing ever got stolen, I never got catcalled and felt safe.
Posted: March 25, 2025To be honest, out of all the places I’ve visited, Brussels was the worst in terms of overall safety and cleanliness. There were a lot of homeless people in the metro and men urinating in front of the main station.

It’s fine - mind where you go and ignore the weird man saying their stupid things. Many man here will say things but truly will not do anything - wouldn’t say it’s worse or better than any other big city
Posted: March 15, 2025Brussels is a beautiful city. I always feel safe. U may find some alleyways that are a bit «scary» at night. This city has a lot of homeless people that sleep around at night. But they dont bother anyone!
Posted: March 4, 2025a lot of crime and drug trafficking. there are gangs that dont care if anyone is around and could shoot you (for mistake) so you gotta be careful and have eyes all over your head. but in the daytime it is much safer and really nice (the city is dirty tho)
Posted: February 28, 2025For female solo travellers, I would recommend not staying late at night, and avoiding the center neighbourhood, as well as Parvis de Saint Gilles, Midi Station, Anderlecht, Molenbeek. For accommodation privilege Forest (Altitude 100), Brugmann, Louise areas.

Brussels is in my opinion very safe. They are of course places where you shouldn’t be going alone or at night time but like in every other big city more people means more idiots. I think you will be fine here :)

I visited Brussels recently and overall had a good experience. I felt mostly safe during the day, but in the evenings, I noticed a lot of groups of men walking around the city center, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable as a solo female traveler. That being said, the city itself is beautiful, full of historic architecture and great museums. I highly recommend visiting Grand Place, Atomium, and trying the local waffles and fries—they’re amazing. If you’re planning a short trip, 2–3 days are enough to cover the main sights. I’d suggest avoiding late evening walks alone, especially in less busy areas.

In the center, I felt safer but even near the center in the night I did not feel safe. I spent 70€ more than I expected there, including the shuttle from airport to center, 20€ each. Waffle was great in Maison dandoy but it was not cheap, and I don’t recommend the waffle factory although it is a cheaper place, it didn’t fulfill my expectations and taste and texture wasn’t good. We were not sure whether to go to Magritte Museum, but we end up loving it and spent 2.5 hours there. If you’re into art, %100 recommend.

Hi! I am an Italian girl living in Brussels since 2022. I work full time on social policies and mostly from home. I can give some tips on the city and host, but sometimes I will be too busy to show you around. I decided to join the group to help boycotting other platforms and to offer a safe space for other women 🫂💖
