Brussel is a nice city with lots of communities and diversity. You could easily make friends and have fun while being in the centrum (still gotta be safe of course). Only downside i would say is that most people, besides young people, don't talk fluent English and that the city has become kinda dangerous at night recently (especially for a woman alone).

I would say it depends in which area you are. But at night it is not safe. You should be careful taking public transport because at night it is not safe. You don’t know what will happen and also there are more people that are using drgs. But overall if you are visiting Brussels in the day and you see it, it is not unsafe you can walk freely. You have to be careful for your bag though. 😄

Brussels is mostly safe. As a woman, I do experience catcalling sometimes though, and I make sure to avoid problematic spots at night (le bois de la cambre or around la gare du nord). Other than that, it's mostly safe.

Brussels is a city that according to each region has a very different safety level. Once you know the exact areas, witch are very easily distinguishable on a map, you can avoid the less safe areas. Overall during the day it's good. Once it is darker, and you come home from a night out, you need to know your route.

I think it depends on the neighbourhood. I have lived there all my life and never had any problems, but I know that there is danger because of dirge trafficking activities. But if you avoid certain areas like Molenbeek, Schaerbeek, Anderlecht, Gare du midi, Gare du Nord, Saint-Josse, everything should be fine :))

Brussels is consideres unsafe due to gang violence, however, generally speaking people who aren't involved in any organised crime will not experience any harm by these gangs as they're far too busy dealing with each other and police. On the topic of sexual harrassment and sexual assault, as queer women in a lesbian relationship who hold hands in public etc my gf and I have had men go out of their way in public to let us know how sweet we look together, we've only once had someone yell something at us in passing. On the other hand when I'm by myself, men do tend to really stare you down hard and sometimes say/yell degrading stuff at me. People are scared of Molenbeek but everyone is super lovely and sweet there. There's a big North-African community living there, and it's mostly people being racist who tell you people are dangerous there for no actual reason. Instead, it's the city centre where it's less safe. For queer people, there's no need to be overly paranoid but do always be aware of your surroundings because there's still a lot of homophobia in Belgium. Especially careful at night.

Brussels is an amazing city, so lively full of different culture and people. Everyone speaks English but the avarege life is pretty expensive especially the food. I will suggest to visit the Art Noveau houses and the gardens (there are many and all amazing). It's actually a pretty safe city but still be careful walking alone at night.

I visited Brussels recently and overall had a good experience. I felt mostly safe during the day, but in the evenings, I noticed a lot of groups of men walking around the city center, which made me feel a bit uncomfortable as a solo female traveler. That being said, the city itself is beautiful, full of historic architecture and great museums. I highly recommend visiting Grand Place, Atomium, and trying the local waffles and fries—they’re amazing. If you’re planning a short trip, 2–3 days are enough to cover the main sights. I’d suggest avoiding late evening walks alone, especially in less busy areas.
