Brussels is generally safe. Just don’t go in weird places. I think there are few robbers like in every cities…but not really criminals. I you have a luxury watch, yeah don’t show it to much..unfortunately. After is safe. Just be careful like normally. Unfortunately like everywhere there can be few people with bad intentions…

Honestly as long as you know where not to go, you’re probably good. Like any city, it has its unsafe zones and I wouldn’t recommend wandering at night on your own through the city, there are some very weird men out there. Besides Belgium is a bit of an early country, most people are inside their homes earlier than 8pm, so you might feel a bit alone on the streets if you go out by night, that’s what makes me feel a bit unsafe.

My rating is based on the place and area I live. It's not the same anywhere in Brussels, some places are to avoid once it's dark (and I know them so I can help !), some streets, metro stations or parks. As women we need to be careful all the time. However I've never been assaulted in 4 years. Some people (men and homeless men) can be insistent, but you can easily walk away or just ignore them (headphones are recommended).

Need to take the usual precautions to be honest, as a women travelling solo it’s always good to take Ubers in the night as we cannot trust other people to keep us safe. Very good to listen to this advice

Not in a place in the world it’s safe for us, women. We will never be safe. Everywhere we’ll feel unsafe. It’s the lever of safety that change. In brussels. If you want to be alone, in a park there will be always a man to bother you. I recommend to not walk yourself at hime at night. Be always careful no matter where city or country you are.

I think Brussels is a safe city overall. It is not perfect but if you pay a little attention to your belongings and to what surrounds you, you should be all fine! The city is quiet modern and usually crowded so you can always find help somewhere.

Brussels is overall a pretty safe city. Some neighbourhoods are of course more dangerous than others. The center is for example not the safest place to go out. Flagey or place de Londres are better to be safe and you can still dance and have fun in the bars.

Brussels is crowded in general because of tourism so be careful with your belongings can be stolen (as in any crowded place). Apart from that try to avoid the train stations in the night, specially Gare du Midi

Brussels is Safe enough ! As in any city, things can happen but les than 1% chance of. As everywhere it is important to pay attention at night or empty areas. If you come to Brussels, I can inform you on places where to go or not.

Solo travel

Europe by train 1/17 • Brussels Reassuring first stop for my solo trip ! Belgians are very nice, and there are so many things to do. Even in the neighborhoods I was told to avoid (like the courthouse), I had zero problem at all 🏃‍♀️‍➡️ very walkable ! I walked by foot from the center to the Centenaire park, it was very pleasant 🏺 Musées royaux d’Art et d’Histoire, Musée des Beaux-Arts, street art 🍔 fries and waffles, of course! Go to Fritland and Maison Dandoy are a must ❤️ museums are great, people are nice, historic center is beautiful. You can eat well for a decent price 💔 outside the historic city center, it is much less lively and it can feel a bit unsafe. Much of the city was also under renovation

Solo travel

I was I Brussels beginning of February and it was very cold. I like public transport, its fairly cheap. I highly reccommend going to turist info point to get map and recommendations on what to see, they are super friendly and nice.

Meet locals in Brussels

Louise

Louise

About Me

My name is Louise, I’m 29. I’m from the french speaking part of Belgium. I’m a curious girl with lots of creative hobbys : drawing, painting, sewing, music, etc. I’m also interested in astronomy, sociology…and I love animals (all of them 🐀🐓🐊). I studied graphic design and cultural managment and I work in these fields. I really enjoy adventure and traveling. I’m interested to meet locals wherever I go ! I started traveling when I was 19; I spent one year in Australia, in Canada and went to Asia several time. I thought that growing up would make me want to settle down but…not at all hahah. I’m interested in meeting nice people that could host me for 1,2 or 3 days when I’m abroad. I’m easy-going and not high maintenance ! I like to chat but I’m also very respectful and understanding of boundaries so if you need alone time you can just tell me and I won’t get offended haha !
