Is Belgium safe for solo female travelers?

Belgium is generally a safe country to travel for solo female travelers. Violent crime is low, however, like every other place in the world, it's always wise to stay cautious and vigilant, especially during night hours or when visiting isolated areas. As a solo female traveler, it is recommended to keep in touch with family, avoid sharing specifics about accommodation and travel, and follow travel advisories. Also, be aware of pickpocketing in busy tourist areas or public transport.

Brussels, Solo travel

I spent 2,5 days in Brussels and half a day in Bruges. I loved the European District, especially the House of European History, the Parlamentarium and the Hemicycle visit. If you're interested in politics or history, it's definitely worth a visit. I stayed at IBIS (city centre) and felt quite safe, though I was overly careful after reading reviews about how unsafe Brussels is supposed to be. The only place I felt worried was Brussels Midi Train Station. People were begging in front of the escalators, in such a way that you can hardly get off the escalator without them being directly in your face. There is a high police presence at this train station though, so in spite of my experience, I did not feel genuinely unsafe. I would, however, keep a closer look on my belongings in this area. I had to ask for directions in Brussels a few times and people were always kind and helpful. One more thing: If you take the underground, be aware that they have multiple lines driving on the same tracks at the same platform! Make sure you get on the right train.

Antwerp, Solo travel

I went to Antwerp with my partner, and it's truly one of my favorite cities of all time!! Amazing culture, beautiful architecture and lovely atmosphere. It's such an open minded city, I never once felt in danger. Since my partner is vegan I was scared our meal options would be pretty limited but every restaurant we went to had vegan options, even some friteries had veggie options of local delicacies! Foodie heaven. I also recommend getting the museum pass if you want to see the more cultural aspect of the city. It's around 70 euros and you get free entry to almost every cultural spot in Belgium for an entire year! Super worth it even for a one week stay.

Antwerp, Solo travel

In Antwerp I felt really safe. The public transport (metro and tram) was brilliant. The organisation after Dua Lipa’s concert was perfect! City was nice to walk around, very clean and pretty. People there were also very helpful. I’m glad most of people spoke english ❤️

Bruges, Solo travel

Bruges is a lovely city and very easy to visit by foot, though be aware that local bikers don't like tourists as they find them annoying and disturbing... I felt very safe traveling alone and wandering in the streets. If you are going during busy touristic time, I would recommend to take the streets next to the main roads which are very often crowded while the neighbouring ones are very often empty.

Brussels

As a woman we know it’s often not safe to travel. Brussels is quite popular and safe to walk around, during the night included. The center is a bit more crowded and busy but overall ok. People are friendly and city quite small

Belgium

Belgium is a relatively safe country, you just have to avoid the bad areas, otherwise in general it's nice, and the Belgians are welcoming. And the city is still nice as a tourist...

Belgium

In general it is very ok, people are nice and welcoming, also in the countryside. However unfortunately in cities (big cities and smaller but student cities) the risk of your drink being drugged or whatever is very real, so if you're not familiar with the area, do not go to parties alone, always go with a group of friends, and just be careful and basically if you go to places recommended or liked by the locals, you will be fine.

Antwerp

I’ve been living in Antwerp for two years, and honestly, it feels quite safe. It’s not like New York — you can actually walk at night without feeling stressed. Of course, like in any city, there are some rare incidents, but nothing unusual. The center is lively, people are friendly, and most areas are calm and welcoming. Brussels feels much more chaotic in comparison. So yes, Antwerp is a city where you can relax, explore, and feel comfortable — just stay aware, as anywhere else.

Is a small town so their is not a lot of people. During the day it’s completely fine their just tourist so normally nice peoples but sometimes during the night close to the station or the bars mens can be annoying, but nothing really serious ever happened to me (I lived there 18 years)
