Ghent is a safe city. I am a young girl and I don't feel like I need to be scared of something. Maybe, for tourists, if you want to bike, it is good to try it in advance since everyone in Ghent is used to it and there are some metro tracks which can be dangerous
Posted: September 3, 2024Very safe town, even at night. There are certain places you want to avoid at night (for example the Citadel park and maybe the area around Rabot) but overall, there is not a lot of crime happening here

During daytime it’s safe. There are always a lot of people and there isn’t a big risk of being attacked or mugged. At night there can be really weird people walking around Ghent. Be aware of your surroundings. Avoid parks and small streets in the dark!

Ghent is a nice progressive city. It's pretty safe although there's a few neighborhoods to avoid after dark. I would not walk around for fun at Ghent zuid, taking a bus or just walking through sure but don't hang around there. Avoid Nieuw-Gent and the sleepsstraat after dark.
Posted: July 27, 2024Ghent, also known as the Harry Potter city is very safe for a female solo traveler. It is a very open minded city, people speak English and are willing to help. Public transport is easy to take, however a bit pricy. There are night buses and easy access to taxi in town. It’s a small city where you won’t get lost easily.
Posted: July 7, 2024Gent, a small and friendly city in Belgium, where you can safely wander alone at 3 AM without drawing attention. Its charm lies in its welcoming atmosphere, rich history, and compact size, perfect for exploring on foot."
Posted: June 30, 2024Quite tranquil city! Safe to walk alone at night in most neighbourhoods. Just avoid the outskirts within the city. In summer there are more people on the streets so more safety. Not much to do in winter.
Posted: June 24, 2024Ghent is a safe city. Even at night! Walking, biking etc is no problem at night, alone. It’s a student city, so it’s usually ‘alive’ and doesn’t feel deserted at all. Streets are well lit. Public transportation ceases around midnight but taxis are readily available. As anywhere else in the world, there can be creepy men, but it’s not that likely that something terrible will happen.

Gent is a student town. A lot of bicyclists, parties, studies! Super safe and women friendly.. All ethnicities, all religions, all types. People here are super friendly and welcoming… They’re used to tourists.
Posted: June 10, 2024In the evening and going out there is a lot of awareness about safe space. Many bars work on this and support women to report when someone made them feel uncomfortable or more. By day the city is nice too. Many tourists in the summer, and throughout the year there are many students in this city. The city is quite diverse.

Ghent is an amazing city to go to as a woman. It's very safe, many cool things to do and very open-minded. You can easily walk alone at night and ask for help in any bar or club if you are feeling unsafe. The prices are a bit high, but you can find some nice budget places such as Panos or other chains.
