How safe is Brasov?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Brasov is relatively safe at night and is considered one of the safer cities in Romania. Petty crime is still a reality, so it's important to stay alert and vigilant. However, incidences that involve tourists are rare. The well-lit main areas and tourist spots are usually very safe, even at night. Locals are friendly and helpful. As with any location, it's advisable to avoid deserted, poorly-lit areas and always trust your instincts.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Brasov is generally reliable and safe. Buses and trains run regularly and on time. Transit areas are monitored and well lit. However, as with any location, it is advisable to always remain aware of your surroundings, should you be travelling at night or in less crowded periods. Exact change and tickets bought in advance are typically required for buses. If you're unfamiliar with the language or the area, it's also beneficial to have a plan and a map, and ask locals or station staff if needed.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Brasov is considered a rather safe city in Romania, especially popular among tourists. Street harassment is not common. Although it's always crucial to stay alert, most solo female travelers report feeling safe while exploring, even at night. However, like in any travel situation, be cautious and aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Romanian people are generally respectful and helpful to tourists.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Brasov is generally a safe destination with a lower crime rate than most European cities. Petty crimes such as bag snatching and pick-pocketing can occur, especially in crowded tourist spots and public transportation. However, the frequency of such incidences is not alarming. It remains important to be vigilant, aware of your surroundings, and keep your belongings secure at all times.

Is Brasov worth visiting?

Group travel

In Romania, we were staying in Bucharest with my volunteer colleagues but we did day trips to Brasov several times because we like it a lot. Instead of sitting at the restaurant at the square we chose to go around and find smaller places which we end up liking. I don’t remember the names but I also suggest you to do so to escape from the expensive prices. Before going to Brasov you can also check if there’s any events going on because there’s something going on in most of the time there. As activities, you should go the “Dracula’s Castle” of course but transport to there is a bit tricky if you’re traveling in a group it would be the best to take Bolt/Uber. I haven’t tried it but the cable car 🚠 also seemed cool and my friends said they enjoyed it. Also don’t forget to check AirBnb for accommodation we stayed in one and it was in this quiet neighborhood out of the center which was so nice. It’d be so good for a winter vacation. Overall, Brasov seems to be very isolated and small which is its charm. Local people are so nice you can just come up to them and talk most of them speak good English.

Is Brasov safe for women?

Safety index

3.8 /5

Based on 5 local experiences

Crime index

1 /5

Based on 5 local experiences

Small time charm comes with overall safety and the police is reliable. However, there is catcalling and mild level of harassment coming from Romanian men, potentially pickpockets in crowded areas and on public transport. Overall, it is one of the safest Romanian towns and would recommend common sense and being aware of your surroundings, but no need to proactively worry about safety.

Brasov is a safe place for tourists and locals. The people here are very kind. Public transport is great, we have electrical buses and the ticket can be paid using your card. Around the city you will find people that speak english pretty good.
