Safety:Very safe

Brasov generally offers a safe environment for solo female travelers. Crime rates are relatively low and locals are usually friendly and helpful. It's not unusual to see women walking alone, even during the night. However, as in any tourist destination, it's recommended to be cautious and aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas to avoid pickpockets.

Transport:Easy

Brasov is fairly easy to navigate. Walking, public transportation, or cycling are all feasible methods for getting around, while the city center is pedestrian friendly. Language might be a hitch as not everybody speaks English, but people are generally friendly and willing to help. Always pay attention to your personal safety especially during night hours.

Things to do:Interesting

Brasov is steeped in history, offering an array of activities for travelers. The medieval charm of the city, characterized by saxon walls and gothic architecture, gives way to interesting exploration. You can visit the Black Church, one of the largest gothic churches in Eastern Europe, or enjoy the scenic beauty of Mount Tampa by hiking or via cable car. Plenty of trendy cafes, restaurants and bars line the Council Square, making the city a culinary delight. It's also a great base to explore Dracula's Castle in nearby Bran and other picturesque towns in Transylvania. However, apart from the urban charm and historical points, outdoor activities are limited given the geographic characteristics of the region.

Food:Above average

The food scene in Brasov is a culinary adventure that showcases a mix of traditional and contemporary Romanian cuisine. Expect to sample a range of hearty, flavorful dishes made with locally-sourced ingredients. While not incredibly diverse in global cuisines, it offers a delightfully authentic taste of Romania's rich food culture. However, if you're seeking out more exotic, international food, options can be somewhat limited.

Budget:Affordable

Brasov is relatively budget-friendly compared with other European destinations. Solo female travelers will find that eating out, accommodation, and transport services are affordably priced, especially if you compare them to the Western European standards. However, some tourist attractions and experiences may slightly bump up your total expenditure. It's a great place if you're conscious of funds but still want a rich cultural experience.

Is Brasov worth visiting?

Group travel experience

In Romania, we were staying in Bucharest with my volunteer colleagues but we did day trips to Brasov several times because we like it a lot. Instead of sitting at the restaurant at the square we chose to go around and find smaller places which we end up liking. I don’t remember the names but I also suggest you to do so to escape from the expensive prices. Before going to Brasov you can also check if there’s any events going on because there’s something going on in most of the time there. As activities, you should go the “Dracula’s Castle” of course but transport to there is a bit tricky if you’re traveling in a group it would be the best to take Bolt/Uber. I haven’t tried it but the cable car 🚠 also seemed cool and my friends said they enjoyed it. Also don’t forget to check AirBnb for accommodation we stayed in one and it was in this quiet neighborhood out of the center which was so nice. It’d be so good for a winter vacation. Overall, Brasov seems to be very isolated and small which is its charm. Local people are so nice you can just come up to them and talk most of them speak good English.
