I stayed with local woman who hosted me in her beautiful apartment for one night. It was amazing experience. First we had a coffee and little chat in one of the cute coffee places and then we went to her place to have a dinner and a bit of wine. After that she gave me her keys so I could come back whenever I wanted. I connected with one more french girl, so I went for a drink with her. I came back slightly after 22 and next day I left early to be able to discover the city. I went to Musée Fabre and enjoyed walking around the old part of the city. I found it fascinating. This city definitely has a charm. I stayed there just 2 days but I felt in love with the place, thanks to my host as well. She gave me many tips and I was happy to listen to her stories.

In my opinion, Montpellier feels very safe. It’s a vibrant student city, so you often see a lot of young people from all backgrounds, races, and beliefs, living freely. The atmosphere is open, diverse, and welcoming, which makes it feel secure and comfortable to walk around.

Montpellier is a safe city; just avoid going to places you don’t need to be, such as dark neighborhoods far from the city center—which, by the way, is a very nice area. But, as everywhere, stay aware.
Posted: October 7, 2025Montpellier is a fairly quiet city with a large student population, so it is actually dangerous to be out alone late at night in uncrowded areas and certain neighbourhoods. Trams are very convenient, but sometimes they can be crowded, just like any other underground system in France.

Montpellier is same as all big cities, as a woman is not feeling safe to walk alone in night. I thing not safe zones are at the north, petit bard and cité gely. But I think you can ask to people help and they’ll be there for you.

Montpellier is a small, peaceful city, full of activity in its streets, where you can truly feel a sense of calm. Like in any tourist spot, you should take precautions to avoid becoming a victim of pickpockets, and make sure to lock up bicycles or scooters so you don’t lose them. Other than that, it’s very safe — even at night, you can walk calmly through its maze-like little streets.
