I stayed with local woman who hosted me in her beautiful apartment for one night. It was amazing experience. First we had a coffee and little chat in one of the cute coffee places and then we went to her place to have a dinner and a bit of wine. After that she gave me her keys so I could come back whenever I wanted. I connected with one more french girl, so I went for a drink with her. I came back slightly after 22 and next day I left early to be able to discover the city. I went to Musée Fabre and enjoyed walking around the old part of the city. I found it fascinating. This city definitely has a charm. I stayed there just 2 days but I felt in love with the place, thanks to my host as well. She gave me many tips and I was happy to listen to her stories.

I personnally did not feel unsafe while travelling in Montpellier. People are really kind and welcoming, nothing and no one bothered me during my stay. This city is really fantastic culturally and there’s a lot of great minorities-friendly places :)
Posted: October 31, 2025Montpellier is generally very safe. There is some drug related criminality in specific areas/neighborhoods. But generally it's a safe city full of university students (so even at night you see people outside)...

In my opinion, Montpellier feels very safe. It’s a vibrant student city, so you often see a lot of young people from all backgrounds, races, and beliefs, living freely. The atmosphere is open, diverse, and welcoming, which makes it feel secure and comfortable to walk around.

Montpellier is a safe city; just avoid going to places you don’t need to be, such as dark neighborhoods far from the city center—which, by the way, is a very nice area. But, as everywhere, stay aware.
Posted: October 7, 2025Montpellier is a fairly quiet city with a large student population, so it is actually dangerous to be out alone late at night in uncrowded areas and certain neighbourhoods. Trams are very convenient, but sometimes they can be crowded, just like any other underground system in France.
