Safety:Very safe

Zadar is generally a safe city for solo female travelers. Like any other destination, however, the basic rules of caution apply. The city has a low crime rate and people are friendly yet respecting of personal space. The city center is highly walkable, and local folks, including police, are often willing to help should you encounter any issues. But you are advised to stay clear of some remote areas late at night.

Transport:Easy

Zadar is fairly easy to navigate being a smaller, compact city. The Old Town is pedestrian-friendly with most tourist attractions within walking proximity. For longer distances, public transport services and taxis are easily accessible. However, English is not universally spoken and signage are prevalently in Croatian, which may pose minor difficulties.

Things to do:Interesting

Zadar provides a mix of ancient history, beautiful coastlines and cosmopolitan city vibes. The city boasts the beautiful Sea Organ and modern installation, Greeting to the Sun. Zadar's old town offers fascinating historic sites, such as the Roman Forum and Church of St. Donatus. Nature lovers will appreciate the easy access to several national parks, including Plitvice Lakes and Krka. For relaxation, take a dip in the sparkling waters of Kolovare Beach. With numerous restaurants, cafes and shops, there is plenty to explore and enjoy.

Food:Above average

Zadar provides a varied feast of culinary experiences. Seafood is outstandingly fresh and traditionally prepared with Mediterranean herbs. Try the local lamb dishes and cheese from the island of Pag. Don't miss out on Maraska, a cherry liquor from Zadar. Vegetarians might find options somewhat limited, but with a bit of exploration, suitable dishes can be found. Overall, an excellent city for food enthusiasts, but not exceedingly diverse in terms of international cuisine.

Budget:Affordable

Zadar is quite budget-friendly for travelers. Excellent lodging options, transportation, and dining are all reasonably priced. Attractions in the city, such as visiting the Sea Organ and Sun Salutation, are free. Local groceries and markets also offer affordable food items if you opt for self-catering.

Solo travel experience

I loved Zadar! The walled old town has the best promenade for swimming with wide stairs leading to / from the water, as well as swimming ladders. The Greeting to the Sun is a group of circular solar panels arranged in a pattern representing the solar system, which after dark creates a light show, which is amazing with the sunset in the background. I made day trips to Mostar and Kotor Bay and loved them both.
