Is Dubrovnik Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Dubrovnik is generally safe for solo female travellers. Dubrovnik has low crime rates and the locals are hospitable and friendly. It's common for tourists to roam the city streets and stunning coastal region without encountering any issues. However, as with any destination, always stay vigilant, especially at night and while in crowded places. Petty theft, like pickpocketing, can occasionally occur in busy tourist areas. Stick to populated areas, take care of your belongings and avoid unlit, deserted locations at night.

How safe is Dubrovnik?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Dubrovnik is generally safe for women traveling alone even at night. The city is well lit, and there is usually a good amount of people out, even in the evenings. Crime rate is relatively low, and locals are usually helpful and respectful towards tourists. However, as with any city, exercise common sense, stay in well-populated areas at night, and utilize trusted transportation services when possible.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Dubrovnik is actually quite safe and generally reliable. Buses are the most common form of public transport and they tend to be clean and well-maintained. Most locals and visitors use public transportation without any major issues. However, during peak tourist season, buses can become quite crowded, so it is always a good idea to take care of personal belongings to prevent petty theft. Additionally, while most public transport operates during night, frequencies reduce, so plan journeys ahead. English is widely spoken, which makes it easy for travelers to navigate.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Dubrovnik is generally safe for solo female travelers. Street harassment is not a common issue, and most locals are courteous and helpful to tourists. Just like any other popular destination, occasional comments or stares might occur particularly in crowded areas but it's relatively infrequent. Standard precautions such as being aware of your surroundings and avoiding dimly lit areas at night should suffice for a comfortable travel experience.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Dubrovnik is relatively safe when it comes to petty crimes such as pickpocketing and purse snatching. These incidents are infrequent and largely opportunistic due to the city's high tourist traffic. However, like anywhere, it's important to stay vigilant and take standard precautions. Be aware of your belongings, particularly in crowded tourist hotspots and on public transport, and avoid flaunting valuables or large sums of money.

I felt v safe. There’s not a huge amount to do and most people are quietly and stylishly dining together. Beautiful restaurants and medieval streets. But Ive just arrived in split which feels much more partyish and lively

Charming little town. Don't hesitate to walk around the city walls to admire the beautiful view of the old town (if I remember correctly, it cost 25€). There is also another place with a nice view, accessible by cable car (which you have to pay extra for), near the city centre. One day is more than enough to explore the old town.

I was in Dubrovnik last September and I was delighted. I felt very safe there, they have excellent public communication, and the infrastructure is amazing for such a small city. I participated in several tours and stayed right across from the water. There is plenty to do there, and this tiny city is beautiful and clean.

I only spent a day there, but I really enjoyed walking around the city. I highly recommend the Panorama Restaurant. It's located at the top of the cable car and is the best place to watch the sunset. Buza Bar is a great place for a drink.

I spent three nights in Dubrovnik, it's really beautiful. It definitely turned out to be more expensive than other parts of Croatia I've visited, especially when it comes to food and drinks. I bought some stuff in the supermarket for breakfast and snacks during the day, so I could eat only for dinner and save money for attractions and activities. My favorite thing that I did was taking part in a guided kayak tour. Three hours of kayaking in the bay, you go to the island of Lokrum and stop by a cave to swim and snorkel. Separately, I also went for a walk to the top of Mount Srd, which has amazing views at the top (and it's a free attraction). I highly recommend both these things, as well as the city walls.

Dubrovnik is just… too damn gorgeous, just breathtaking. I literally cried when I saw the old port because omg it feels like a scene out of a movie, the water is really turquoise and it looks so so pretty and the old town just had such a familiar and ancient vibe. I honestly would want to come to Croatia again in the summer … some other time hehehe. It really is so damn gorgeous and It was so therapeutic,

I loved Dubrovnik. Since the city is a UNESCO World Heritage site, most of the architecture has been preserved. You feel like you're walking through the set of a medieval movie. Absolutely amazing. In addition, I participated in a tour of Game of Thrones filming locations, as some scenes were shot there.

I didn't particularly like Dubrovnik. The city was really crowded with cruise tourists. I also found it to be really expensive. It was so hot there that I couldn't manage to visit the walls because it was too humid. Although the city was beautiful.

Dubrovnik was beautiful. I rented an Airbnb with a veranda overlooking the ocean, and on the right I could see the Old Town. It was especially beautiful at night, when the Old Town was beautifully lit. Very safe for female travelers, I saw many single women walking around at about 10:00 PM.

Dubrovnik is truly amazing. I loved kayaking around the island of Lokrum, it was a wonderful experience. The Game of Thrones trail tour was also fantastic, an incredible place. Wednesdays were the busiest days because cruise ships arrived. I also had day trips to Mostar and Kotor, both places are definitely worth visiting.
