Safety:Very safe

Belgium is generally a safe country to travel for solo female travelers. Violent crime is low, however, like every other place in the world, it's always wise to stay cautious and vigilant, especially during night hours or when visiting isolated areas. As a solo female traveler, it is recommended to keep in touch with family, avoid sharing specifics about accommodation and travel, and follow travel advisories. Also, be aware of pickpocketing in busy tourist areas or public transport.

Transport:Easy

Belgium presents relatively easy navigation for solo travelers. With its compact size and efficient public transportation systems including trains, buses and trams, traveling between cities and towns is quite convenient. Additionally, the common use of English aids communication. However, understanding the different region's transportation can be a bit confusing initially.

Things to do:Interesting

Belgium offers a diverse range of activities making it a fascinating country to visit. There are stunning architectural gems to explore, from the historic Grand Place in Brussels to the charming medieval buildings of Bruges. Museums abound for art lovers, particularly those interested in surrealism and art nouveau. Chocolate and beer connoisseurs will be delighted by the wide range of quality products to sample. Additionally, Belgium’s convenient size and excellent transport links make it easy to explore. Despite this, it can be a dreary country during the rainier months, and some might find it less dynamic compared to larger European countries.

Food:Excellent

Belgium offers a truly diverse and unforgettable gastronomic experience. Renowned for more than just its fries and waffles, the country boasts a rich variety of cuisines, from mouthwatering seafood at coastal regions to hearty stews and meats of the inland areas, along with a range of international food due to the cosmopolitan nature of major cities like Brussels. Besides, Belgium is famous for its chocolate and beer, both considered the best in the world.

Budget:Moderate

Belgium falls in the mid-range in terms of budget. While not as expensive as some other Western European countries like Switzerland, it might be pricier compared to Eastern Europe. Accommodation, food, and transportation are of good standard but can add up. Look for budget-friendly options like hostels and local eats. Free activities include exploring beautiful cities like Bruges and Brussels on foot. Always plan ahead to save on costs.

Couple travel experience

I did a nice coast trip with my friend in belgium. It is possible to drive from west to east coast by tram, 60km on one day. One ticket. Hop on hop off between beach, grass, villages and cities. Nice small cafés on the road and at the end activities on the beach.

Solo travel experience

I had an amazing week spent alone in Belgium. I absolutely fell in love with Brussels and had no problems, even walking at night and taking pictures. Ghent was beautiful and stole a piece of my heart, an incredible place. Bruges was truly beautiful, but a bit more tourist-oriented than I usually prefer, but still worth visiting.

Solo travel experience

I traveled to Belgium for 5 days. I visited Brussels, Bruges, and Ghent. It was simply magical. I highly recommend Belgium because it is safe, centrally located to many places in Europe, and because it is such a small country, it's easy to get around.

Solo travel experience

Belgium is a beautiful country with many amazing places to see. Brussels is stunning with many interesting sights, beautiful architecture, museums, etc. Antwerp is also amazing and has a completely different vibe than Brussels. Many future designers come from there. Ghent is spectacular, and Bruges is very pretty. If you are interested in the history of World War I, there is a lot to see in Ypres and Flanders.

Solo travel experience

I embarked on an 8-day trip to Belgium, spending 4 nights in Bruges (St Christopher's Inn) and 4 nights in Brussels (Latroupe Grand Place). I took a day trip to Ghent (from Bruges) and a day trip to Antwerp (from Brussels), also going on walking tours around Ghent and Antwerp. Bruges was definitely the highlight of my journey, I recommend going there 100%. Brussels is just another city, although it does have many museums and a great nightlife.

Solo travel experience

I had an amazing time in Brussels and did not encounter any safety issues, even though I had read about the negative experiences of others. I even walked around at night taking pictures. Ghent is absolutely stunning and has won a special place in my heart. As for Bruges, it is undoubtedly beautiful, although it can be quite touristy, which usually isn't my preference, but it's still worth a visit.

Solo travel experience

In October, for the first time in my life, I went on a solo trip to Belgium and I really enjoyed it. I started in Antwerp, and then I went to Bruges, which was beautiful. I had a balloon ride over this place. Then I went to Brussels and from there I made a day trip to Ghent. It was very easy to get around everywhere by tram/train/bus. Language was no problem, as most places were well-versed in English.
