Hasselt is a small city, calm city center but lively during the day. In the context of a small country, safety is not an issue here. People are mostly locals but there is an interternational crowd too, as Hasselt attracts tourists for biking, shopping and events. It’s also the capital of the region of Limburg and home to Hasselt University and a lot of big schools.

Hasselt is very safe! I have never had problems here. I can easily walk around or cycle home at night after having had a few drinks with friends. It’s a small city and I live in the centre where we usually don’t have any problem at all.

I am Wendy, a 51 years old teacher, living in Hasselt (Belgium), a small city at 1h from Antwerp, Brussels … After 23 years marriage I’m single again and I have decided to travel the world. I have never travelled alone so it will soon be my first experience. It scares me a bit but in the meantime I’m looking forward to meet new people, other cultures and habits and rediscover ‘myself’. I have two ‘kids’ of 19 and 23 years old who support my dream of traveling solo a few months. So looking forward to this new adventure in my life!

Hi! I have lived in Belgium all my life. I am a mum of two young children and recently the travel jitters have flared up again. I look forward to meeting new people from all over the world.
