Overall safe, even at night. Maybe only the train station is better to be avoided after dark, because there potentially could be drunk man, like 2 or 3 of them (only sometimes). I still wouldn't worry to much about it
Posted: May 12, 2025Hasselt is generally a safe city with a low crime rate. Violent crimes are rare, and it is safe for women and tourists. It is also a fun city, where there is always something to do, which is why there are always plenty of people present in the city. If you go to town to party at night on weekends, you will also encounter people of all ages. The only thing that might be considered dangerous is the train station, this is because drugs are more common here and there are homeless people. Otherwise, Hasselt is very safe.

I am an introverted girl, like to play board games and talk about science 😎 if I feel comfortable around a person I can become funny 😅 In general I am very chill and kind, trying to avoid conflicts at all cost

Hi! I have lived in Belgium all my life. I am a mum of two young children and recently the travel jitters have flared up again. I look forward to meeting new people from all over the world.

I am Wendy, a 51 years old teacher, living in Hasselt (Belgium), a small city at 1h from Antwerp, Brussels … After 23 years marriage I’m single again and I have decided to travel the world. I have never travelled alone so it will soon be my first experience. It scares me a bit but in the meantime I’m looking forward to meet new people, other cultures and habits and rediscover ‘myself’. I have two ‘kids’ of 19 and 23 years old who support my dream of traveling solo a few months. So looking forward to this new adventure in my life!
