Mechelen is a safe space with a lot of police control you can go outside ( you will get catcalled if you look cute, but I think that’s everywhere because men can’t behave lol) you can take the train or the bus without a single worry and I regularly go on a run in the middle of the night without anyone bothering me

Mechelen is a small and charming city where everyone knows each other. It has a relatively young population, as it’s a trendy city with plenty of job opportunities. Everyone knows everyone. The city is buzzing with cultural activities. Even in the evening, it definitely doesn’t feel unsafe. At night, I wouldn’t walk alone near the train station, just because it doesn’t feel very comfortable — although I doubt anything would actually happen.
