Zadar, like the rest of Croatia, is generally considered safe for solo female travelers, even at nighttime. The city is usually bustling with activity until late hours, and the locals are friendly. However, like any location, certain precautions should still be recommended. Always remain aware of your surroundings, particularly in less busy areas or if you are traveling back to your accommodation late at night.

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Zadar is generally reliable and safe. The city has a well-connected bus network making it easy and secure to travel around. However, it's always smart to be attentive and keep personal belongings close, especially during rush hours or at night.

Street harassment:Very low

Zadar, like much of Croatia, is generally very safe, quite hospitable, and welcoming to tourists. Instances of street harassment are very low and tend to be exceedingly rare. Of course, basic travel safety guidelines still apply, but on the whole, unpleasant interactions are unusual.

Petty crimes:Low

Zadar is generally safe and incidents of petty crimes like pickpocketing or bag-snatching are relatively low. However, like with any tourist destination, such incidents can occur, especially in crowded places. It is recommended to exercise normal precautions, such as not leaving your belongings unattended and being aware of your surroundings.

Tap water:Very safe

Tap water in Zadar is perfectly safe to drink. It goes through rigorous quality checks and complies with strict EU water standards. Both locals and tourists consume it straight from the tap. You need not worry about buying bottled water unless you particularly prefer its taste.

To do: - Church of St. Donat - Sea Organ - St. Anastasia's Cathedral - Greeting to the Sun - People's Square - Kolovare Beach - Land Gate Safety: I felt super safe. Recommendations: Zadar is very beautiful and significantly cheaper than Split or Dubrovnik.

I spent a long weekend in Zadar and I was thrilled. Very clean, amazing seafood (I tried octopus salad for the first time, super fresh and delicious!).

Solo travel experience

I loved Zadar! The walled old town has the best promenade for swimming with wide stairs leading to / from the water, as well as swimming ladders. The Greeting to the Sun is a group of circular solar panels arranged in a pattern representing the solar system, which after dark creates a light show, which is amazing with the sunset in the background. I made day trips to Mostar and Kotor Bay and loved them both.
