How safe is Norway?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Very safe

Norway, in general, is one of the safest countries to visit. Nighttime safety is excellent, even for solo female travelers. Streets are well-lit and are generally patrolled regularly by police. Crime rates are incredibly low, and Norwegians are polite, helpful, and speak excellent English. However, as with any location, it's always advised to stay in populated areas, keep your belongings secure, and be aware of your surroundings.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Very safe

Norway's public transportation, whether it's city buses, trams, or trains, is considered incredibly safe. It operates timely and has clear guidelines and signs, which are generally followed by the public. Most locals are helpful and respectful, making it comfortable for a solo female traveler. Nighttime transportation can be less frequent but remains equally safe. Ongoing police patrols and CCTV installations also contribute to a safer transportation environment. However, it's always a good practice to be vigilant, particularly during late hours.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Norway is one of the safest countries in the world for travelers, with very low levels of crime. Street harassment is uncommon in this Scandinavian nation as it offers a mostly respectful and safe environment for everyone, especially women. The locals are typically friendly and gender equality is highly valued. However, like anywhere, it's important to be cautious, be aware of your surroundings, and follow common safety procedures.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Very low

Norway is renowned for its low levels of petty crime. This doesn't mean it's non-existent, but compared to other countries, occurrences are relatively rare. Stay mindful of your belongings and personal safety as you would anywhere, but undue concern is unnecessary.

Mandal, Family travel

Since we stayed with my father who lived there i can't say much about the housing/hotels. The beaches are very beautiful and there is one for every need(one with a water playground for kids, one with some volleyball nets etc.). There is also a Discgolf place with several holes that is very entertaining. If you got kids and like hinking I do recommend going to the town hall and get a map for a treasure hunt! You basically go hiking all around the city searching for letters to complete it and receive a small price in the end. Not in mandal directly but there is a cool place called Vildgarden were you can meet, pet and feet some moose (extremely cool)

Oslo, Solo travel

I actually got stuck there for two days as I was trying to fly home. But I didn’t mind because I got to explore Oslo. I ended up sleeping at the airport and exploring the city during the day. The bus system was easy, the town was clean, and it was easy to communicate in English. I didn’t go out at night, so I’m not sure how safe the nightlife is.

Oslo, Solo travel

Oslo, you cozy little beauty! Had such a lovely time wandering your streets — beautiful architecture, friendly people, and this calm, peaceful vibe tucked into every corner. But oh boy, for October, you were chillier than expected — I’m talking serious penguin-core weather. 🐧 I thought I packed enough layers… Oslo said, “Think again, pookie!” Would 100% recommend visiting — just maybe add one extra jacket you think you won’t need. (You will need it.)

Norway, Solo travel

I've been to Norway several times in my life. I've always travelled in a van and felt totally safe. Last time, I went to see the orcas. It's one of the most beautiful memories I have. Norway is a magnificent country with breathtaking nature.

Oslo, Solo travel

Oslo is a beautiful city ❤️ amazing landscapes from the heart of the city center, also a maritime city 🥰 The same ticket for the public transportation is valid for bus, metro, tram, and also BOATS to the Oslo islands 🙌🏻 ✨Girly-friendly: Super safe for solo travellers 🎀 ✨Slow green city: It is not often to drive private cars in the city centre. Only public transportations, taxis or business cars. ✨Expensive night life: Drinks have high taxes here in Norway so alcohol in general is super expensive ✨Average price for a meal: 20-30€ ✨Water is always FREE in restaurants and bars I’d definetly recommend Oslo to a solo travellers! 🙌🏻 Beautiful landscapes, safe plus Oslo citizens tend to have a good taste in fashion! 🥰✨🙌🏻

Norway, Solo travel

I went wild camping, since accommodations in Norway are quite expensive. I felt surprisingly safe, would recommend this. However, I always tried to stay out of sight with me tend. Like behind a bush or something like that.

Bergen, Solo travel

Bergen is a small town that is a very convenient city to start your travels into the norwegian mountains. There are a few interesting places to visit like the old wooden church that is easy ro reach by public transport.

Yes, i felt really safe since most of the population were locals and the city is well known for its safety. There were many museums, and galleries, and modern designed buildings except the expensive not that tasty food.

Oslo, Solo travel

Like everything in Norway, Oslo is pretty calm city, with not a lot of activities especially on winter's time, but it feels very comfortable and safe for female solo traveler. But be prepared for extreme weather and prices:)

Oslo

It’s pretty safe in Oslo city center. Some low level crime in some places, especially in rural areas far from the city center. Those are local areas where usually no tourists go to. Avoid being alone at night time in those areas, especially for females who doesn’t want male attention.

Oslo

I have lived in Oslo for thirteen years, and very few times felt unsafe! As long as you stay by the crowded streets by night or by going home from public transport. I trust police officers. Some guards can be violent at clubs, but rearly and if so, rapport them to someone local. I have experienced sexual harassment, as woman and as queer woman. Uncomfortable, but not violent.

About Me

I’m 27. I live in Oslo,Norway and I study nursing. I love to travel but I feel like I haven’t been able to travel much because it’s so expensive. I would love to travel a lot more whenever I get the chance. I love to meet new people when I travel and learn from the locals about the culture and get inside info you can’t get from the internet. I’m mostly busy with school and work atm. Feel free to reach out about whatever.

About Me

I am currently 43 years old. I'm a cis-woman, and I use she/her pronouns. I identify as bisexual and queer. I'm from the north of Norway, but I chose to live somewhere with a better climate, a bit more cultural options, and one of the main reasons, easier to travel. My health had other plans, though. I got sick around 6 years ago. Today, I have an ME/CFS diagnosis and a disability pension. My capacity is low, and I haven't been able to travel much the last few years. I would love to host other women who are travelling, though. I think it's a wonderful way of getting to know interesting people. ☺️ I used to host couch surfers when I still lived up north. And I enjoyed that a lot. I don't have a car, so I can't help with transportation, unfortunately. I am an archaeologist by education, fairly interested in history. I always try to see some ruins when I travel. I like art, but I'm not particularly knowledgeable in that area. I LOVE good food, and I like to cook. I enjoy wine on occasions, but I don't go out drinking any longer. I was a part of the salsa-community, but I had to give up dancing because of my illness. My interests are diverse, from hikes, foraging, drum circles, to going to concerts, dance performances, and theatre. And just chilling, having interesting conversations. My apartment is green, gold and orange, (check tiktok) I embrace a maximising, dopamin, whitcy style. 🤣 I am leaning towards the alternative and whitcy scene. Not comfortable and knowledgeable enough to call myself a witch. More of a forager. I am a part of the local BDSM scene and a femdom community. Also, Juicebox, that's an Oslo based wlw community. (Higly recommend) I hope to meet you ☺️
